Piecing together Richt's staff (with updates)

I was hoping McClendon would be the rb coach and he would keep Beard. I would hate to lose Sam Bruce.

Sam is not going anywhere with CMR in place. WRs and QBs thrive with him in college and get them prepared for the next level. He'd be crazy to decommit

All the coaches are still recruiting, that doesn't mean they will be here. Kehoe told tatum he was staying to get him to take a ov.

Why does keeping Beard translate into keeping Bruce? He couldn't even get Scarlett to come.

Anyhow, good start, ghost, but if a guy like McClendon comes, Richt might have to slap an AHC title on him (BMac is currently the UGA interim HC). No way Coley gets that much responsibility. I was envisioning him as QBC/Passing game coordinator type of guy but if you bring in BMac, you have a couple guys that have redundant skill sets.

I think VanGorder is a real possibility especially since he's coached with Richt and Martinez.

I think Scott stays, I could see Coley staying too if he accepts a lesser role. Other than that, not really interested in current coaches. Don't you think keeping that many current staff members would slow down the culture change?

I like Hurlie too, but I want to clean house more than what you are predicting right now. I trust Richt, we will see how it plays out I guess.

I think you'd switch Coley and Scott... From what Richt said about coaching QB's and calling plays, I think that means Coley is out. Scott was co-coordinator this year prior to being elevated as HC and I think Richt will keep him on staff in that capacity. He said he wants an offensive coordinator to structure the offense from week to week but not call plays. This has Scott's name written all over it. May be too much of a neg for Coley's ego.

that has Coley's name over it too, because he did that at FSU with Jimbo. The Herald buzz was that Coley wants to stay in Miami because his family is from there (he too). He might be willing to swallow pride to keep the family happy.

Yeah the more I think about it, the less Coley is a viable option (which I'm fine with.) I might start editing the OP sooner than later lol!

Rocker and Lilly sound good for new coaches. Kehoe doesn't. The DC is the biggest hire....and it needs to be a big-time hire if we're to win championships, in my opinion...

There is absolutely no way Martinez would be the DC. If you couldn't get the job done the first time, why would you be rehired at a later date? Highly unrealistic...

Also, 4 current coaches sounds a bit heavy to me. Far too much of the current coaching regime. 2 would be my upper limit.

A clear change of the guards is warranted...

Kehoe is still living off that 2001 line. SMH.
If Richt keeps him is certainly not on job performance. IMO.
We should never have a Kehoe recruited line again....you end up with away too many Kehoe specials.

In regards to Bryan McClendon, UGA fans think he comes to Miami as OC. Richt can develop him just like Mike Bobo. McClendon could also be WR or RB coach.

Coach Mclendon

VanGorder is going to be the highest paid DC in the nation now that Smart is the HC coach at UGA. Guy makes $850k a year at ND. Not coming here IMO

I'd love it if they cleared out the whole staff except Scott personally.

This program needs new blood everywhere

Good call. I just saw on the recruiting board that Scott has indeed been out on the trail with Richt, so hopefully that's a good sign for him. I'd like to keep him somewhere if possible.

This makes a lot of sense to me. Scott could also stay as OL coach; I think Kehoe (like all of our current staff should) is telling recruits he's staying until he hears otherwise.

Could also see Richt having the coaches go on these in home visits to EE recruits & not making final staff decisions until after the players are on campus. He said he would like to take his time & this is something most schools/coaches do.

At this point in time, I believe Bruce is coming no matter what however to address your first question

1. Scarlett never strongly advocated for beard like Bruce has. It's clear there's a stronger relationship between the latter two.
2. Beard was the position coach for Bruce unlike scarlett
3. Beard was in a support staff role when Scarlett was deciding

Three coaches I would love to snag from UGA:

1. Tracy Rocker
2. Bmac
3. John Lilly

John Chavis is the highest paid DC in college and it's not even close
