Phillips to Sit a Year

After one year in our strength & conditioning program, Phillips could make the full transition from a standup LB to 4-3 DE. Looking for him to be 6’5”, 265 or so and much stronger than he now appears. Match that with 4.6 or 4.7 speed and we’ll have a potential monster.

This is really exceptional work by the staff in ensuring a DE pipeline. Got some luck, too.

Garvin is most likely gone after this season. Hill is a much-needed GT, so will also be gone.
They'll presumably be replaced in the rotation by Phillips' talent and Harvey. Rousseau would then presumably be the lead dog in his junior season.

Keep it going.

This. We need a run of talent on the field and going to the next level. We should habe a guy drafted in the first 2 days every year if not every 2 years. Chad got the ball rolling IMO.

Remember when Willis sat out all of 2017 only to come back last year & completely dominate?

Yup... This will be a similar situation. Jaelan will start in 2020 & be a monster.

He's 6'5 255bs right now, after a full year in the S&C I definitely see him getting up to a solid 265lbs maintaining his speed & quickness but adding good strength as well.

I call it a business gap year.

If you're truly trying to walk on that stage and shake commissioner Goddells hand, this year off is where most of the work to get to that goal is done. If you handle your business this year, the next year on film ain't nothing but a showcase.

Wrist injuries could be unbearable Especially for a lineman who is using their hands every play. As he said In the Navarro article he came back too early and wasn’t all the way healed. This year off should do wonders for him in terms of getting that wrist healthy. He also noted that he wasn’t worried about concussions at all.
True. He should have plenty of time to keep get ROM back and strengthen ligaments. Being that he’s young and preciously was and very good physical shape it won’t take long to regain form and then he can start building from there.

Probably had to medical to stay on scholarship knowing Kelly. I’m sure there’s a back story there that Manny and Simpson are privy to. Not worried about it at all.

With Hill, we’re fine at DE, Garvin, Hill, Patchan, Rousseau, along with the freshmen if needed. Joyner may be fourth or fifth man up if he settles at DE, Could shock everyone with a strong year as he’s a talent. And McCloud can also play there when the striker is on the field.

This is shaping up to be another Gerald Willis situation. Take a year to get right physically and mentally while helping the team behind the scenes, then after that year unleash a grown *** man with elite talent to dominate on the DL.

The talent and scheme on our defense is creating a scenario where Jess Simpson can create one **** of a reputation for himself in a very short time

I want to hear the same reports from the scout team about this kid that we heard about Willis because this kid was waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy more highly ranked coming out of highschool.

He’s going to be a problem anywhere around 255-260. Let’s hope the new sc coach is the real deal finally. Sick and tired of all the sc hype only to have dudes look stiff.
I want to see dudes get heavier and faster with less body fat. I want everyone to say the same thing about us as hey do for the other teams. Basically I want um to be suspected of steroids just like everyone suspects bama Clemson pedophile state, osu etc etc..

What’s kinda funny to me is that I don’t remember Willis really standing out in 2016 prior to the injury then he sits out 2017 and comes out and has one of the best seasons ever at DT for Miami in 2018.
