Per Barry and the Herald.

This Pleases Me.

Let him heal, grow and perfect. Very possible the final factor that sealed Hill to us as well.

I think we'll have enough d line depth without phillips this year. If we clean house on d line recruiting in 2020 class we'll be loaded for manny's second season. We gotta make sure jaelen is healthy, especially regarding those concussions, and having this season off will allow him to ease into training, practice, and the hitting on a regular basis.

This is shaping up to be another Gerald Willis situation. Take a year to get right physically and mentally while helping the team behind the scenes, then after that year unleash a grown *** man with elite talent to dominate on the DL.

The talent and scheme on our defense is creating a scenario where Jess Simpson can create one **** of a reputation for himself in a very short time

Not even close. Gerald was all mental and personal stuff. Nothing to do with history of injuries.
Phillips is all injuries.

Phillips is a handful of concussions and a car accident induced wrist injury. It's not like this guy is learning how to run again.

It's a paralleled timeline and reclamation story of an elite 5-star talent on the DL. I don't understand the random nitpicking nonsense on this site sometimes. But, here I am entertaining it, so I guess I'm no better...

Smart move by this young man. Gives him time to heal and gain strength. He'll be a monster in 2020.
Agree, gotta believe with the upgrade to our S/C program and coach that he will get a routine tailored to his injuries to rehab and strengthen his deficiencies. Concussion is another question, but time and distance from contact can never hurt. This was a great decision.

I'm still a little skeptical about taking him. His retirement is a big deal not because of the injuries but just the fact that he was ok with possibly never playing again. I wouldn't want guys who would be ok not playing again. What's to stop him from doing it again
I don’t think it’s that cut and dry. Some people are just legit great at more than one thing. Sometimes the only way to identify what you actually want to do is to take it away for a while and see what happens.
