I like it! With our offense and special teams hopefully taking a step forward, that will help the D out as well.
With our defense last year if he had a punter we would have won 9-10 games.
We never were able to flip field position and make things easier for our terrible offense.
This year I expect the offense to hold its own and therefore with this defense make a big run.
What I would really love to see is someone emerge as a dominate pass rusher. Joe Jackson was a beast but he wasn’t a dominate pass rusher. Hence why he wasn’t drafted higher.
If someone emerges as a guy you have to double team all of a sudden more of those blitz we want to run get open runs or a 1 on 1 for our best guy.
If you don’t think this defense is gonna be absolutely nasty this year, you’re a moron, naive, or both.
I still hold my position that it’ll take a small step back from last year, but from the outside, it may actually look even better just because I expect the help from the offense and punter to be infinitely better.
Enjoy the defense this year, fellas. They’re gonna be fun.
I agree with you. I have always respected Steele, he said the same thing about us last year, hoping he is on the money this year. The thread is over 2 hours deep but it has less than 10 post. I wonder why. Had Phil ranked us as the 40th best defense, there would have been over 100 post in less than an hour with idiots pumping there chest about how "terrible" our defense will be this year. A respected football mind/prognosticator gives us a very positive review, and the thread is f'ucking crickets. Why am I not surprised? We are going to put a **** good defensive product on the field this year!
Agreed. However, we go thru this every couple of years not knowing what the next guy up is going to do. I remember Redwine at CB and Jackson at CB wondering if either would ever see the field. It looked like Jackson would never see PT until he had is breakout Spring and Fall camp prior to his junior year and Redwine bloomed when he moved to Safety. We need our secondary to prove they are the same caliber without JJ and MJ, then I’m a buyer.
Looking at the depth has me excited!!!! We are solid 2-deep at every position. Could be 3-deep at DE with Harvey and Williams. DT will have at least 5 in the rotation. Martin needs to step up and make it 6 solid at DT. Having McCloud as a backup WLB is much better for the team than having him as a backup Striker to Finley. The wildcard is going to be Joyner and Jennings. If they are unable to play, we could be one injury away from seeing our true freshman get a lot of playing time at LB.RDE Rousseau / Hill / Harvey / Walker
SDT Ford / Bethel / Martin / Blissett / Holley
WDT Silvera / Nnoruka / Miller / Hunte
LDE Garvin / Patchan / Williams / Phillips
WLB Pinckney / McCloud / Huff / Stephenson
MLB Quarterman / Joyner / Jennings / Brooks
STR Finley / Frierson / Keontra / Alford
BCB Bandy / Williams / Bethel
FCB Ivey / Blades / Couch
SS Carter / Bolden / Murphy
FS Hall / D. Smith / Knowles
