Phil Steele national position rankings (Miami)

I’m not here to hype Klubnik, but the not elite comment gets thrown around a lot here. 3639 yards 36TD 6INT are good #’s.

We talk about Beck being elite in 23. He was 3941 yards with 24TD and 6INT.

For context, Cam was our GOAT QB last season and put up 4314 yards 39TD 7INT.
Im with you and numbers don't lie...but when you actually watch all three of those guys throughout the entirety of those seasons its easy to rank them 1-2-3....and CK is not number 1.

Yet another season where we have as much, or more talent on the roster than every team we play, and ND is the only team you could argue has more. Hopefully this is the year we can make good.

If it were just Beck, I would rate us higher at QB.

Regarding the DL, to me at all hinges on if Hetherman can stick with his 4i scheme and be effective against playoff level teams. If so, then we should be ranked in the top 10. If we need 2 traditional DT’s out there, we are too thin.

Mildly surprised he rates our DB’s so low given the personnel production at other programs. But we were so bad last year I can’t blame him.
Agree. If CBs were split from safeties, I think both numbers would change a lot from the -24 he has for DBs overall

I personally don't pay attention to this stuff. I don't read it. The more info I get from inside the program, the more excited I get. It takes some insight to read what is true and what is coach talk. Their are some things I can take from Spring, but most of it is BS when it comes to fan info. As a fan, Spring is basically meaningless. I expect a big jump on D this season. I will keep saying, I believe in this D staff. I just have to see the run D, come ND. Counting on D. Lewis and Heatherman here. Waiting to see if Bonner can win the Mike. I am most excited about the packages with players at different spots. That's going to confuse CJ Carr Aug. 31st. I also think Toure, Bonner, Scott and Thomas(Spring portal) all have the potential to be better than originally thought. 10 Days until Camp.

If our run D can stop ND, we're playoff bound. ... You think he wins Mike over Toure? Nice to hear Bonner is impressing, but I don't see that happening.

Clemson is getting a lot of hype because they have the most continuity returning, and they do have front line talent.

Miami has better top 44 (2 deep) than Clemson.

Clemson was boat raced last season by UGA and our QB. They lost at home to South Carolina. They lost at home by double digits to Louisville. They needed a late game heroic run by Klubnik to beat Pittsburgh with their backup QB.
Even against Texas they lost by 14, and gave up like 300 yards rushing to a Texas team that wasn't even that good running the football.

Its a big leap in projection going from one of worst run defenses in the country to a good enough run defense to be a National Title contender. Banking on a converted WR as your RB1 and a true freshman to man the backfield also is a concern.

They had the easiest ACC schedule I think I have ever seen last season, thats the reason they got to the ACC title game. Had they play @GT or @Syracuse they would have lost IMO.

Their best win was against Pitt with Pitt's backup QB. They were like 85th in run defense. They even caught a break vs. Vt with Drones and Tuten both injured.

Now they played a good first half against SMU got a lead, (Lights a little too bright early for SMU), but once SMU got their sea legs they dominated the rest of game almost coming back and winning. SMU had 458 yards of offense and 28 First downs to Clemson's 326 yards of offense and 20 first downs.

Now this years team is probably their overall best since 2021 maybe 2020.

Wirh that said Klub isnt Lawrence, Woods isnt Wilkens, their is no Sammy Watkins or Nuke Hopkins at WR.

They can be beaten. I think Miami matches up great against Clemson actually. We bullied them at the LOS last time we played.

The main issue is Clemson doesnt typically lose games they shouldnt. Typically. So they navigate a season better than we do.

They are the safer pick to
Win ACC when you factor in our history.

Well written. I think people are overrating Clemson and underrating Miami because of recent history, not really projecting forward. But we'll know by Game 4 for both teams. We play ND and UF, they play LSU and @GT.

Klubnik was mediocre at best in 2023. I know he looked good last season, and I know we've seen guys like Jordan Travis develop from being a bad first year starter into a special player. But is Klubnik going to be THAT guy, or did he just get lucky with one of the easiest schedules ever last season? His only 300+ yard games were against Wake, UVA and App State.

Our LB's are NOT a top 30 corps.

That's actually kinda funny.

I'd put them around 75 until proven otherwise.

ND might rush for 300 against our front 7.
Don’t get me wrong I love my Canes, but it’s going to be a huge challenge slowing down ND’s rushing attack, Love is considered the best RB in the nation, and they also have another running back that’s arguably top ten in the nation, along with a top 3 oline…ohhh man.

Klubnik is pretty good, Clemson returns their entire Oline, and their wr group will be better this season imo, with that being said I still think we have a more complete team than them

DLine is too high. Closer to 20 would be my prediction.

RB a little low, but it ultimately lacks a game-breaker and is more well rounded. Maybe Steele is accounting for that.

Here is hoping for the best. In this day and age, are these guys going to be motivated week to week? **** are the coaches going to be motivated. I feel like everyone makes too much money.

Different way too look at the rankings....there are 3 teams in the B1G (PSU, OSU, Mich) that have deep rooms, say 5 in the $EC (Texas, Bama, UGA, and two more) and even add another 5 for Clemson, ND, etc. Outside of special teams, where we are breaking in a new kicker and have been deficient in recent seasons, those statistics argue that we should be no worse than 16 in all other areas.

The thing that concerns me about Clemson is that a lot of the hype they’re getting is due to Klubnik and the three WRs that are expected to have big years. Our secondary isn’t proven yet, so this could be a potential problem.

Love is a dynamic runner that is hard to bring down. They just lost their best lineman and they don't have the depth they had last year.

I'd say Love is the favorite to win the Heisman going into the season.

I hope the defense rises to the occasion.

Klubnik improved last season but I think we've seen his best football.

Clemson has no running game.

who cares about preseason stuff? its what happens on the field.
Most dudes on CFB message boards care about the preseason stuff.

It doesnt effect my day but I care enough to read it.

Its odd that you dont care and youre also here.

The loss of Borregales should not be downplayed. He was an ace kicker and now thats a question mark until proven otherwise. Special teams always makes me nervous in big week 1 matchups. I do feel good about Beck, the OL, our D end group, and the infusion of talent from the portal in the secondary.

I dont because some guys dont live up to preseason hype and others just blow up out of no where.

This year the schedules are more balanced.
They play SMU, Louisville, Syracuse and GT, which probably are the next 4 best teams in the league.

I have that GT/Clemson game circled. IF Tech wins that game at home, they may be this year's SMU.
They play Syracuse, Pitt and VT at home. Their 4 ACC road games are against the bottom half.

Klubnik improved last season but I think we've seen his best football.

Clemson has no running game.
I wouldn’t say they have no running game, it just lacks depth and is somewhat unproven. Their young starter is talented, but there isn’t much behind him so they had to move some guys over from other positions. They will definitely be pass-heavy this year.

It remains to be seen whether or not that will be good or bad for us.
