Perry’s skill set

Accurate. Good arm. Good timing. Keeps eyes downfield. Can look off a safety. Can throw into tight windows. Can throw with zip and with touch and on the run.

Where is all this hate for Perry coming from? He’s a young guy adjusting to playing at the college level. He has made mistakes and will make more if Richt isn’t too stupid to give him the opportunity.

Should UVA have pulled their QB when he threw two picks in the first quarter?

All this writing Perry off is just mind-boggling.
Richt don’t even let him run the ball like that🤦🏾‍♂️ Virginia coach said they view Rosier more of a runner than Perry

What will people say when the savior Jarren has the exact same struggles as a Red Frosh next year?

3 QB's in 3 years have all had the same issues, there's obviously a common denominator...

I don't think anyone here said Jarren is the savior. Many of us are just saying he's the best we've got. We actually don't know how much better he is, I can only go by his HS film. I do agree though Richt has been one of the worst play callers this year @ Miami that I can remember.

I think the point is that people are tearing down Perry for not instantaneously “killing it” under a system (play-calling) that I don’t think any QB could truly flourish under.

But Perry’s physical skills - and intangibles like keeping his eyes downfield and looking off a safety - are just not subject to genuine dispute.

Agree 100%. That may have been the quickest hook I've ever seen. Made no sense at all. Let him work through it. Give him some easy throws to settle down. Bubble screen or swing pass to the rbs. The guy probably would have settled in after a bit and good chance we go on to win the game.
Exactly. It was so obvious during the game. The announcers said in the 1st qtr. I was screaming at my tv, "Throw some short passes damnit!!!!" We could have got N'kosi in a flow then put up some points and blown them out in the 2nd half. But NO. Richt plods away with his gameplan ignoring that fact that our blocking sucked leaving us in 3rd and long which puts more pressure on the QB.

I'll dispute it. He looked off the safety vs FSU and then acted like he didn't even know there was a safety vs UVA.

How can he be the best and we haven't even seen him in a real game. People forget Perry made an absolute dime throw and it go called back for holding. Gotta help your young QB out.

I think the only intellectually honest position to take here is for one to not be a proponent of ANY QB on our roster right now nor Rick as a judge/developer of talent at that position. None of them have earned our backing at this point.

Making excuses for Perry at this point is based on what you THINK he can be. It can't be based on anything you've seen as his flashes of brilliance are too small a sample size and too offset by repeated mediocre play.

Making excuses for Rick is even more dumb as he's done nothing on the QB front during his tenure here to show he can even adapt to the current skill level of the guys on his roster at the position let alone any signs of having actually developed them since they've been here.

Sooooo Ol' Taddy is gonna sit this one out and not throw my support behind anyone while just getting hammered on straight Dry Vermouth into my veins and hoping to one day be pleasantly surprised by having a competent QB that is occasionally good...not great....just good.

Bust out the defibrillator and wake me up if Jarren gets any burn. I hear his high school tape is straight fire.

Agree with this. Everyone wants to see Perry come in and tear it up right away, like some of the other younger QBs, like Tua and Fromm last year and Lawrence were able to do. I think most people acknowledged that based on the level of competition Perry faced in high school, that wasn't as likely for him. Now, I don't think it's unrealistic to expect to see Perry improve over the course of the season, and to make the flashes of potential more consistent each week, but not all players progress at the same rate. The problem is, we have to allow Perry to get the experience so that he is able to make that progress and become more consistent.

I think that most of us also realized, or should have realized, that giving Perry that experience was going to come with some growing pains, but that it would be worth it as the season, and his career, go on. Pulling him like Richt did is not allowing Perry to work through his issues and learn from his experiences. Perry has shown the ability to be more accurate than Rosier, the ability to make throws and plays that Malik can't make, the ability to get our skill guys involved, etc. That doesn't mean that we may find out that after a handful of starts that Perry is also not the future, but he needs a chance to show Richt and his teammates either way.

Wait, so you're saying he came after Rosier at halftime and that's why he got benched? He was already benched. Do you mean that's why he STAYED benched for the rest of the game?

Need some clarification.
Rick knew Perry was going to mutilate Rosier at halftime. That’s why he preemptively benched him. He’s going pro or transferring after this season.
