The ones that Miami gets are exactly that. There's nothing to dispute about it and it's been the case for over a decade with a few exceptions.

If you have the magic elixir of bags and winning to start landing Jeudy, Cooper, Watkins, etc. then by all means let's cherish the skill of the 1-2 annual local WRs who meet the criteria. But guess what - there's no individual person who's gonna land those players with their irresistible charm. The myth of the recruiter is endlessly hilarious...as if some of these dudes can step into any program and pull whoever they want.

The problem is there's a large volume of local WRs and a lot of them are landmines. They can play but their inefficiencies limit your ceiling as a team. Aldarius Johnson, Tommy Streeter, Mark Pope, Dee Wiggins, Sam Bruce, Dionte Mullins. How many of these does Miami need to slap you in the face with before you become aware? The talent level of the WR room sucks and the culture is worse, and it's not for a lack of stars or locals. These dudes can wow you in 7on7 and outrun high school corners but they're helpless against college press corners or adversity in general. Even Ahmonn Richards who's a prototype NFL WR was very inconsistent at Miami due to technique.

I'm saying if we're gonna recruit these raw WRs we better have either a top-notch position coach or the players better be unquestionably elite athletes. Frank Ladson is a good example where he can't run routes for **** but he's tall and super fast...oh and Clemson actually develops WRs so that helps. Aside from that it makes sense to be selective with local WRs (this year I liked Bryan Robinson and Douglas Emilien) and if spots are available you recruit nationally and identify WRs with requisite skills and intangibles (like Worsham).

Yeah Curtis isnt regurgitated. Currently coaches WR for NO Saints, was a HC for years at Tulane. A wealth of experience identifying and coaching elite talent. A Grand Slam for sure.

I’m normally the first one to laugh at the same old names being regurgitated and the obsession with hiring former players, but Thomas wouldn’t be a bad hire tbh.
