Penn State Coaching Search Disaster

They had no plan. Clearly. Firing Franklin midseason was an emotional reaction.
It was a bad decision, but the timing wasn't. They were first mover, so should have had plenty of time. The issue was that Franklin was a good coach, and it was always going to be tough to find a guy that could clearly say was an upgrade.

Personally, I would hire Al Golden. What hurt Golden was D'Onfrio and the players he wanted were not in south florida. Golden was really good at evaluating talent. I think his style of coaching fits perfectly up north
It wasn't the players at all. Alfraud was actually a very good evaluator of talent. His issue without question was his loyalty to no dnofritos over his job,his players & this university. He allowed that dude to make him appear incompetent by taking players that were very talented in general and trying to force them to acclimate into systems they would NEVER excell in.

Supposedly there are people at PSU pushing for retaining the interim head coach b/c 'he has been loyal to PSU for 10+ years and is an alumni'

At least this is what was said on the Yahoo College Football Enquirer.

Sidenote: I have said it before and will continue to do so... if you have any interest in listening to a podcast that discusses all of college football (i.e. not Miami focused), the Yahoo College Football Enquirer is such a good one to listen to. Highly entertaining and informative. I also find that with them only having 2-3 shows per week that it is just the right amount of information vs some of the daily shows that are repeating the same things over and over or stretching content.
Well apparently heen been doing no **** recruiting! Bruh like, “Hire me…. or I ain’t recruiting ****!!! The new guy won’t have a **** freshman class.”

On the flipside, think of all of the NIL they are saving this year for next!

Penn State fired James Franklin on October 12th not satisfied "only" winning 10 games a year. And yet - they still have no coach. Cignetti, Drinkwitz, and Rhule all signed extensions. They then tried to get the BYU coach, only to be punked by Crumbl. They're apparently looking now at Brian Daboll lol.

Their recruiting class is 135th, they might as well not have a recruiting class.

They've destroyed their program for the foreseeable future.
i bet they settle for brian kelly. **** fit better up there anyways

It is the tribal small-town northeast mindset which permeates around StatePenn where they stick with their coaching buddies over their players. Look at that program under JoePa where they never let go of their geriatric coaches and, of course, Jay Paterno. Their idea of cleaning house and revamping their coaching was moving their QB coach to coach DEs. It was like they were running a Mom and Pop Italian restaurant in Johnstown or Allentown. Very cultish weirdos in that part of the country and don't get me started with the Sandusky criminality.

They are better off promoting an assistant for an year or two and starting the process with available candidates then...

Perhaps promote Smith and give him money to build a good staff starting with keeping their coordinators if possible. Obviously, not a great long-term solution, but it may buy them a year or two before **** hits the fan.

Heard on the Dan Patrick it has been decided to let Smith coach next year then save all their resources to go after a big fish the following year when there’s less competition.

Optically, they may have been "first" officially, but I would argue they weren't the first mover. I can't stand the Gators nor LSU, but it's apparent they were backchanneling well ahead of their announced firings, possibly before the season.

There's a maritime principle that applies: Always start your engines before you pull your anchor.

Franklin was in the playoffs last year, so separating from him was probably not even on the radar until the season got underway. Just my opinion, but they didn't think much else through, other than they were ****ed off.

This is why Philly doesn't claim the rest of Pennsylvania. Bunch of ******* weirdos.

Golden actually put together some talented teams while he was here. Like really talented. His loyalty to his bff is what did him in.
