Pelini wants NSD gone

Or let them out if the HC or position coach of the recruit gets fired or takes another job.

But I don't see this happening because it would require more than we can reasonably expect from the NCAA. Besides kids would just wait to commit rather than committing early.

I wish they could sign now and not allow them to decommitt but they should put something in the contract if you get hurt your senior we will still honor you with a 4 year scholarship!

Pelini brings up some interesting points. Make that offer count for something and not the "verbals" that everyone tosses around like dirt.

Assuming both sides were bound by a hard commit, I believe half would declare early, perhaps even more. There will always be those guys who want to announce at an All Star game. But I think it would reduce a lot of the circus show.

Maybe If they were able to sign scholarships any time they wanted after their first day of school senior year. Holding a kid to a commitment he made as a Freshman/Sophmore is kinda ridiculous.
If they allow anyone to sign at any point in their senior year, that would be fine I guess.

Can we just call this what it is? Coaches who don't like being beholden to indecisive teenagers trying to change the rules, to treat kids like adults so that they can lock them into binding contracts sooner and sooner instead of finding a job whose success isn't directly linked to the whims of pimply faced teenagers.

And are early offers really some sort of epidemic problem? Are there kids who are offered early and then pushed out late? Yes. Is it unfair? Yes. But unless it's a kid's only offer he still can choose his plan B school. Now, would the number of kids in that scenario outnumber the kids who make their first visit to a campus, face immense pressure to sign on the spot, only to immediately regret it and find themselves locked into a school they don't want to go to because they got caught up in the process?

Imagine a sophomore in HS from Los Angeles signing his LOI to attend UCLA because it's close to home and family is important to him. Then as a Sr. his mom or dad gets transferred to Virginia and suddenly he has to go to school 3,000 miles away from his family. Who is that good for? Him? or Jim Mora Jr.?

100% agree with this.

What about if you look at it from another perspective? What if the kid just doesn't develop like the school thought he would? What if he's eating **** in school and becomes a candidate to become an academic casualty? Or worse, what if the kid becomes injured and his performance significantly decreases after said injury?

Doesn't the school get ****ed in those scenarios too?

I think many kids would sign early because they want to insure a ship. Sure the top end kids would probably still milk all the drama, but at least the coaches could get most of class in and spend less time just protecting commits. It would put pressure on coaches and players to get business done. Plus, since it seems many of our early offers blow up and get stolen, it might benefit us. If nothing else, it would cause the sec $$ men to spend more and earlier. System doesn't seem to favor us right now so change it.

one thing about the early signing period is that you will really know who is committed to you and who is just holding a spot and looking around

So lets say I am a 4.0 top of the class student and only hold 1 offer and that is from Marshall. i commit because there coach said I had until December to commit and than Duke offers me in January than I should be forced to go to Marshall? NSD is exactly where it should be and I wouldn't change a thing about it.

does this look like a man you want making decisions that'll affect your child's future?

Just take away the TV and All-Star game announcements and the problem is solved...Prima Donna's want that 5 minutes of glory.

Obviously not a 4.0 student. Marshall is about right. :quag:

Risk v. Reward

The current system is a total mess.

Pelini's idea would create a lot of issues with stupid kids making stupid decisions too early and being bound by those decisions.

The best idea IMO is a 3 step process:

1. An early signing day during their senior year. The ESD would start November 1 and end November 30th/December 15th. For the first time, recruits are allowed to SIGN with a school. If a player doesn't sign during that period, they're still a free agent and all schools would be aware. Players who are enrolling early would have till January 1 to sign (since they may want to visit during Christmas Break).

2. Regular Signing Day in early February. After November 30th/December 15th, players must WAIT till the regular signing day to sign.

3. The word commitment is dead. Only signed and unsigned.

Aren't there already similar periods in place for academic scholarships at some schools? Early acceptance periods/deadlines.
