Pay them!!

Schools dont have to pay them a dime but let them make money off THEIR name/likeness etc and if some booster wants to give them money let them give them money. Never heard a single logical argument as to why theyre not allowed to profit off THEIR name/likeness

this.... whatever money they generate they should receive. Prime example Zion spiked the Duke ticket sales so he should've made some type of profit off that and his likeness and etc

Duke has sold out for almost 500 straight games.

"
Sales traffic to Duke basketball's ticket page at Vivid Seats is up 82 percent for the 2018-2019 season, reports Vivid's Stephen Spiewak. Moreover, Duke fans are traveling a median distance of 469 miles to watch the 18-year-old Williamson.
Vivid's ticket sales for this season's Duke-UNC games are more than double the previous three seasons.

The so-called "Zion Effect" is also in full swing at national ticket reseller SeatGeek. Duke has been the hottest ticket in college basketball this season, said Nate Rattner of SeatGeek, selling out every game.
Thanks largely to Williamson, ticket price are up an average of 178 percent at SeatGeek when Duke is the visiting team."

Those appear to be resale outlet, how does that benefit either the NCAA or the school?

sir im talking about the impact college players can have.... the school profited of the ticket increase or did you misread that?
The school doesn't profit off the increase in price of tickets on the secondary market, unless they have a stake in seat geek. The beneficiaries are the individuals hocking their season tickets, and the third party that is providing the platform for the transaction.

Duke tickets probably have gone up every year for the last 20, and will continue to go up for the next 20. But for this example, Zion is not impacting the sale of their tickets. The brand has sold every ticket it has since like 1990 or some ****.

okay i understand that part.... so you don't think duke basketball made more $ this past season because of zion or not? i would imagine he had some impact on enrollement as well not a huge spike but I would imagine a few more rich kids wanted to go to Duke to witness Zion for a year and et etc

Doesn't much matter what I think, or what you imagine. But I know duke has been selling out of basketball tickets long before, and will continue to sell out long after Zion leaves. I know they are a top tier academic school that is turning away 90%+ of their applicants, not because they don't get enough that are qualified. There is no impact on ticket sales, there is no impact on enrollment. They will sell out again next year, and they will take a full academic class next year.

And guess what, Zion will get paid next year too.

They should. The same mentality created both systems. Monopolistic entities restricting individuals from making their own business deals.

The slavery ain’t necessarily in the unsalaried position. It’s when you force them to not be able to make any money of their own IN ANY CAPACITY under the illusion of amateurism.

These guys can’t sell a stick of gum or even get a summer job. The ironic thing is most of the people who oppose them will harp on and on about socialism and free markets, but think college football is good as is.

It's more like the old time company town's steel and coal companies etc. used to set up... Before Unions

If you want to work you had to live in company provided housing and only buy from the company stores and other facilities...in fact they owned all the buildings and businesses. It was justified by saying we provided "them" with so much. But they also benefited far more by having the captive employees.

Of course the employees were free to leave once they paid back the company for all that was "provided".

You want to work? Then play by their rules.

No problem at all.....unless it's happening to others ...and not to those we care about....poor schmucks

Don't want to pay them ?...Fine then at least allow them to earn $$ while attending however they can... legally as any other student is entitled to do... without having to share it with the school ir NCAA.

Exactly. These guys love socialism as long as wealth redistribution is done from the bottom up.

When it goes top down it becomes a different story.......

TRUE

The poor aren't the only ones receiving subsidies.

Numerous entities and organizations receive subsidies...Corporations, builder's, farmers, sports teams etc.

I never understood why any city would build a stadium for a team.

Only a few benefit from buying tickets at the higher price charged...you can always watch them on TV wherever they are based

They say that it benefits an area...maybe a corporation... IF they provide the employment promised at reasonable wages.

The others I have great difficulty with understanding.

Pay the players and dont give them scholarships. They will be broke in no time.

Its amateur athletics for a reason.

The "scholarships" are given because the school wants them there..... It's the minimum they can do.... Take it away and see how many athletes you get.

OK the NCAA rules make it difficult now because you will have to pay ALL athletes regardless of *** or sport

Just allow them to earn additional outside $$ on legal non sport activities....just like any other student can.....

Just because you're earning $$ on other non sports related activities doesn't change your amatuer status.

They'll be broke IF you don't teach them how to make $$....allowing them to earn helps prevent that....while also increasing their entrepreneurial skills.

Who does it hurt?? Unless you really just want to keep them broke and dumb

Lets pay them when most schools lose money on athletics. Yay great idea.

Once they start paying them college football is done.
Were saying Let them make money off THEIR likeness/image etc ..... if some kids want to pay them 500 $ for a few autographs then let them....if some booster wants to pay his rent or lease him car then let them....if someone wants to pay them 10 K to make an appearence somewhere then let them. School isnt paying them a dime in all of those cases

Great idea. Let boosters with deep pockets pay whatever they want.

Yall do realize miami football is dead if that happens dont you?

Gotta love people *****ing that the schools are making too much money as if they're pocketing it. The same people think $4 million a year for a head coach is peanuts.

Notice how these small college town schools and the schools handing out major bags are totally against paying the players.

So it took UM like 20 years to find the money to build the IPF, yet as someone posted above, each man on the roster generates $1mil/ per player every year for the school. I love simplified math.

I said A&M profited over a million of of each player.

If you're going to quote me, quote me correctly.
