Pay or develop. Bottom line. Point blank.

Miami will never get back to the mountain top unless they're willing to ante up and pay these kids the going rate, or develop the 3 & 4-star kids who do sign here.

In addition, we've got to do a better job of identifying who the top kids are and offer them early in the process. We can't continue to have situations like Battle, Rosemy, etc. and expect them to be loyal to us when we're giving them the cold shoulder. Battle wanted to commit but we held him off too long, and by the time he was a take it was too late. Ohio St and Alabama had already gotten involved.

At the end of the day, IF we can win and develop we will be fine. We won't get them all, but we will get our fair share.

Win. Recruit. Develop.

GO CANES!!
I agree with this also because we play In The weakest division in CFB. So for us, consistently winning that crap division should be literally the baseline of our success every year. The coastal is that bad! So with that said if we can get some actually coaches that know what the **** there doing and can develop all the 4 stars we get and we get a lot of freaking 4 stars here then winning the coastal should be our birthright. And if we can manage that small task in winning that crap division then the U will recruit its self and will start getting more 5 stars. Let’s see if Diaz can start doing what the ACC brought us in to do and that’s is dominate our side of the bracket.

Whether it's with money, cars, housing, jobs, etc. everyone's doing it. Some to a much larger extent, but that's the college world we live in today. In order to stay competitive, when in Rome...
"Everyone" interesting. Thanks for your input.

Miami can start by paying for coaches snd support staff.

We hired a first time head coach, a DC from Louisiana Tech, and a S&C coach with two years of experience at Temple.

Some may want to put a positive spin on it, but to me, it looks like Miami is bargain-hunting as usual.

I don’t see the commitment to winning from this admin.

It’s telling that Barry Jackson at the Herald wrote an article a few days ago explaining why Miami will never be “back.”

We know that the Herald prints whatever UM wants. It’s almost as if our admin have thrown in the towel, and they are trying to lower fan expectations.

Be happy if we can compete for the coastal. That’s what this program is, and that’s what this program will be for the foreseeable future.

We are an above-average Coastal team, and that’s how it will stay until we get a new BOT, president, athletic director, etc.

But it’s not just today and wish some people would realize that. It’s been going on since the beginning the paying certain players. Some decades more then others with the 80s being the pinnacle of it but it’s always been happening and we’ve won all 5 of our NCs during the heart of it. Luckily for us we don’t have to play it that hard because of our location. All we need to do is win and they’ll come like they always have. And with so many top notch players down here will lose some to bags but not all and we just have to get our share which we’ve always done as long as we win. Here’s one reality, Bogle didn’t get a bag, Alabama isn’t paying for a player like him, he went there because there a winner. Had we been the winner this year we were supposed to be with our crap schedule then Bogle would be a cane now and so would Nunn, Brownlee, and the running back from Jacksonville. Those dudes don’t get paid. Now the Stevenson’s and dents, those guys get paid but if we won then we’d have definitely made there decision a lot harder. So In the end it’s the same thing, win the crappy coastal which shouldn’t be that hard and will get our share to compete for championships. And let’s all be grateful all we have to do is win the coastal and we’re not in the SEC west or big ten east trying to win. Those are some freaking tough divisions and ours is crap, so we should be grateful and start dominating it!

I'd be curious to know what the "Going rate" is. I keep hearing 200k + for a 5*. That's just insane to drop kind of $ on a kid that may never play a down.

Not as many kids are getting paid as people believe. 95% of these kids just see better opportunity elsewhere and it’s nobodies fault but the coaches and administration over the last 15 years.

I cant see us successfully paying players for a long period of time like those other schools . Our Media down here sucks they'd print that story in a heartbeat and we'd be ****ed

As I said in my initial post, Miami needs to develop. If you look at Miami's success over the last 30 years, it's pretty clear that Miami's best years were with coaching staffs that developed their talent. Miami has been irrelevant now for 15+ years and it's not necessarily because we can't recruit, it's because we can't develop. Started with Coker and continued under Shannon, Golden and to a lesser extent Richt.

I think the formula is pretty simple... recruit + develop = WINNING!

What's the point in signing top 5 classes if you aren't going to maximize the talent?

The going rate is anything a school is willing to pony up. Tyrique got six figures for his signature. So did Neal. And the lists goes on.

Bull****.....you want some cheese with that whine?

The bottom line is we have to pay if we want to be called The U again, and we have to be prepared for the down years after we get sanctioned by the NCAA. The NCAA is not going to let us win for long that's just the reality. We can develop all day but that will not be enough. These lower rated kids are rated lower for a reason. They only have so much potential, their ceiling is only so high. You may be able to find a few gems but not enough to win in the CFP.

Stop lying! That article said nothing about “never being able to get back to competing for championships”. All it said was it’s tougher now and you have to work harder. That’s it! So stop with the BS lies. We brought in back to back top 10 classes. This year sucks but with a competent staff and an offensive that not in the Middle Ages we win the coastal running away consistently and then guess what, top ten classes start falling in our laps again like they have the last 18 years for the most part.

We need to be more creative, but I firmly agree w u on identifying and offering early. How we come late to the party w kids in the yard is beyond me.

First things first; win the Freggin Coastal every year! This is one of the worst division in CFB and we continue to **** the bed w some of the easiest schedules.

We need to strip down and rebuild and it’s OK. ****, Saban went 5-7 his first yr at Bama and just had kids believing in his vision of what he did at LSU. Strip and rebuild. The entire culture needs to change on the field and off the field.

We've been developing defensive players right and left. We need to start doing so on the other side of the ball.

**** I just saw a stat today that we have the most players on NFL player rosters.

UCF is a good example, if they can do what they've done with their talent against LSU and Auburn, there is no reason that we cannot be competitive. Not playoff competitive but we should be in every game we play.

I feel that in theory, Miami has the big money fans that would be able to play the bag game. Question is, are they willing to do it in an untraceable, quiet fashion? Probably not, as it seems that everyone in South Florida wants to be the big man and wants to be seen throwing $ around. In the SEC, those old white guys are fine fading into the background with no notoriety. The show-off culture here is a big part of why we can't effectively play the bag game.

This is what's most disappointing. Miami has not been maximizing their talent for the last 10-15 years. We get 4 & 5 star kids who are suppose to be impact players, yet they come to Miami and barely have a ripple effect. I can think of many players over the last decade who've had very little impact at Miami, yet have been able to have careers in the NFL and in some instances flourish.

I hope that Manny and his staff can turn this narrative around. It's been depressing to turn on the tube and see guys like Anthony Chickillo, Allen Bailey, Thurston Armbrister, Rayshawn Jenkins, among many others do their thing at the pro level. Yet, while they were at Miami, hardly mentioned or noticed.

GO CANES!!!
