Paul Williams

I don't really post in here but i read all the time. But Paul Williams is straight up stealing money, there is no other way to put it. Our DBs look robotic, Tracy has regressed big time.

I think that's more about the scheme we've been playing, but I admit that for the first time that I can remember we actually got in press coverage on a down that made sense and it was not a DT either. I think those INTs will come in time if we can bring pressure up front. I even saw us have four linemen with their hand on the ground in a passing situation. Still prefer to be an aggressive 4-3 base D, but think we're trending up!

This guy needs to resign. Our DBs have zero interceptions through 12 quarters if I'm not mistaken. I understand that some of it is related to the scheme but I am very disappointed in Howard and Burns. Those guys could have gone anywhere but they've done NOTHING!! NOTHING!!! THEY'VE DONE NOTHING!!!

Bush is an NFL safety and will be all pro in the NFL. We just don't use his athletic ability. Bush is an extremely aggressive safety and very athletic. UM needs to let him play more aggressive instead of sitting back so deep.

Bush has to run over 20 yards to try and make a play on a screen pass. Bush arrives in a blur. The problem is that our scheme forces him to be at a disadvantage requiring him to cover so much ground.

I'm sure the scheme doesn't help, but sometimes he gets there and doesn't look natural making the play at all. I don't question his athleticism, he's definitely gifted there.

you don't think it's odd that he did know how to make a play on the ball as a freshman? he's regressed in our defense. some due to injury and some due to coaches not teaching fundamentals and sharpening his technique.

Most dissapointing unit. Crawford is a liability in the passing game, and Carter is not a sure tackler. These kids are playing so poorly that Fentress gets time because he's a sure tackler. Bush is the best of the bunch. At CB this unit should be great. We have 5 kids who have proven they can play. Right now Corn Elder is the best we have. With the game on the line, he's the guy I trust to cover the other teams best WR. Burns does not play physical enough, and is not instinctive, the speed of the game is too much for him right now. Howard, not sure what is wrong. Kid is a baller, and my guess is he gets going soon. Gunter and Crawford have not played great, but are solid. Paul Williams needs to pick it up. Load of talent there.

I had high hopes for this unit, but like said above, their play is awful. They don't look for the ball. Players just standing in space, instead of reacting to the pass to tip it up or knock it down. Most of the passes yesterday were ducks. I hope they can turn it around for next weekend. Going to be a long game on Saturday, if they continue to cover like they did against FAMU and Ark St.

Carter is still playing through that phase of wanting to make a big hit. He mentioned this back during the Spring. Much rather see players consistently get our opponents down rather than trying to cream someone. Pick your spots - like when you have a safety behind you - to bring the funk. All of them need to work on one on one tackling in space.

Bush doesn't look like the same player that we saw 2 years ago, and I'm not talking about explosion/speed. His angles and open field tackling are brutal, not a quality you want in your safeties. Burns continues to look more like a gifted athlete than a football player, I'm losing some of the excitement I had for him. I'm not sure if it's scheme or mentality or what but a lot of these guys just don't look like natural football players. Corn Elder is a guy who looks comfortable around the ball making football plays when he gets a chance, I'd like to see more of him. Some of this is undoubtedly a sign of how well players are being coached, but some of this stuff is instinctual/natural.

Alot of guys like Artie Burns have NO IDEA...about Zone scheme etc...Swag you know they just teach man press at the high school level down here...So then they get overloaded with No Frio's jibberish.....and coaching on spcing, technique, etc. Then have to absorb that....that their THINKING so much instead of playing afraid of messing up (Artie Burns, Bush imo)

Howard had a lot of coaching in techniques and scheme in high school....i think he is just in a lil slump and all the rotating of players aint helping..some guys have to get settled in....and get a feel for the game..he seems to be one of those guys

Corn as well as Crawford have looked good so far..and Crawford was a guy that didnt look good last yr. Corn looked good to me last yr...kid has hips and is smart...lso that bball ability translates on the field.

Deon Bush tries to make a knock out hit every time....thats a problem i see.....he as well as Carter...though Carter has looked better...guys just needs to make the play. I like what i see from Carter/Bush combo..and Jenkins back next yr improves the back 7 as he is very athletic.

These kids been playing football their whole lifes...but for the most part nobody makes plays on the ball when it's in the air. We are lacking instincts we don't take chances. Like someone said earlier a lot of those passes yesterday were just thrown up for grabs and the ASU receivers made the plays on the ball and we did not, we don't turn to find the ball in the air point blank period. This has been a practice that been going on every since this staff has been in place.

Our db's never turn to find the ball in the air that's not scheme that's coaching PERIOD. All of our db's are broken that's on the position coach.

Its one thing if its one player, but this seems to be across the board. None of our guys can make a play on the ball! NONE! That is coaching, our guys seems lost in zone and who to pick up and even when in perfect position seem to panic and pass interfere more than not. He doesnt have the excuse of no talent, because the DB squad is a whos who of talented DBs. And with the rotating (which I never seen sooo much with DBs) they seem to be thinking too much and hoping not to make a mistake or get pulled after one catch...

Heck I saw Howard make a nice pass breakup and before he could do a typical DB celebration he was already being subbed out, like WTF

Against who Armstrong who can't throw the ball at all? Arky states QB is better then that guy.

I dont know if WIlliams is a good coach or not but this nonsense about not turning around is just plain stupid. Unless you are saying that Williams explicitly tells them not to turn around, its on the player. These kids have been playing football for 15 years. Everyone on the internet with zero coaching or playing ability beyond HS knows to turn around when the ball is in the air but Williams. Our players havent been able to figure it out by themselves either. Did nobody in HS ever teach them to turn around or did those coaches not read internet message boards either. It is not the scheme either. When burns is right in position to make a play(cant be scheme if he was there) and doesnt why is that not on him. There is plenty of blame on the coaches and or coaching, but you guys excuse bad play way to much. Same thing with the OL. Kehoe may suck, again I dont know. Not at practice but we havent faced any exotic defensive schemes these last two weeks and the OL is getting whipped. Basic football. block the man in front of you and they are getting beat. Maybe a "better" coach can make it a "little" better but if you cant block one on one than its a player problem too.

Ant Crawford hasn't been playing bad. He's had lots of pass breakups and tackles.. Gunter and Howard are slow af and are bigger than Crawford elder but can't tackle at all smh. Shocking to see our two smallest defenders out there coming up to hit. Fentress has been out playing all safeties. Kid is reckless! I like watching 28 throw his lil body around lol
Bush @as looking like telemaque and ray ray.. Comes up so fast but can't break down and whiffs. Cuz got his ankles broke badly by that lil slot. Was bad.

The problem with Bush is that he's an ATHLETE and not a FOOTBALL PLAYER. He's been that way since high school. The same thing with Burns. These guys barely did **** in high school. They didn't put up great numbers, they were just bigger and more athletic than everybody else.

And as far as him being too far back...

Where did Sean Taylor and Ed Reed play? How'd they get so many **** interceptions? I'll give you a hint: They weren't playing in the box.

You don't know what our scheme is or what we're doing with our Safeties. No clue.

I'm sure the coaches aren't teaching their DB's to play the ball. Lmao. Really?

You guys sound so ******' stupid sometimes. I'll tell you what, get your *** out there on the field and coach some football. Then you'll realize what it's like to teach a kid something over and over again only to have him fail at it on game day.

Do you guys listen to yourselves? You're implying that a COLLEGE DB coach isn't teaching his DB's to play the ball. Lmao

How 'bout holding the kids accountable for once?

It's one thing to say that our scheme sucks, it's another thing to imply that a college DB coach isn't teaching basic fundamentals.

After watching Vernon Hargraves last night. Our corners are not even close to being good. They get beat, don't look for the ball, and worst of all they miss open field tackles. They all around not good DBs. I'm talking about Howard,Burns, and Bush. Crawford has played really good, Corn will get more playing time. Gunter has look good at times. Jamal Carter has improved. he just needs to break down. Dallas hasn't disappointed.

This is exactly why i would love to have T Rob as the D cord/ Db Coach

Too be fair, Bush has always been suspect in coverage... He never made a play on the ball as a freshman... He was always a head hunter... Now that the expectations are higher we are realizing it more... However, we are going to have to step up as the competition gets stiffer... Arky state made some nice passes at times but they lacked the athleticism and talent to make consistent plays...

Bush was a head hunter who lacked fundamentals... He got by off his athleticism... He always struggled in coverage and went for the knockout blow instead of wrapping up... That's why he's missing tackles and struggling in coverage... Oh he's definitely a great athlete but he isn't an all pro anything... We over-hype our players so much...
