Patrick Barnett, 2020 OT (Key West)

Interesting film against bad competition. Looks like a finisher.

Athleticism might be a concern (19 inch VJ) but he is verified 6'6, 305. Illinois offer.

I understand he 16 years old. If so the explosive ability will improve much as many 15 year old top WRs and DBs have not yet developed their maximum explosive ability when testing numbers over that span are compared.. Decent strength considering age and arm length with 320 bench. Remember offensive linemen are the last to develop physically.

Forget about testing numbers at that age. Look at his first step and follow through in blocking. He is quick for that age and size. Body will harden out with age and S&C. The fact he can stay locked onto smaller defensive linemen attests to his agility.

That's one tough conch... I kinda like him... very scrappy! He looks pretty lean for being 300#. Great find!

Who are some other guys we’ve gotten from the keys?
George Mira Sr. (The Matador)
Speedy Neal
Was Kenny Lopez from Key West?

Yes. Confirmed in post I didn't see. He came in to high hopes by JJ and staff. Aggressive, forcing type of DT well suited to our pressure defense. I recall career ending early due to bad back.

Of course, no true Hurricane can forget the Key West heritage of a Hurricane legend, George Mira.

For those too young to have experienced the Mira era, you just don't know what you missed.

Just a trivia aside: baseball great Boog Powell played line at KW with Mira, although he didn't play college football.

There was a highly rated rb who went and played minor league b-ball out of hs and came back to UM but didn’t last long. Name escapes me. In the 90’s.

I remember this as well, but can't think of the name.
