A bunch of posts on this thread are just pathetic. AQM breaks his roommate's nose... AQM says it was self-defense... witnesses interviewed say something else (read: not self-defense).

I'm guessing many of you don't receive the alumni magazine because you didn't attend UM, so let me help you. Pat Whitely is one of the most beloved administrators in the history of the U. She is honest and fair (I speak from personal experience), and yes she puts the U's students above the U's football team... as it should be.

Hopefully AQM learns from this and comes back. Glad he hasn't lost any eligibility. I'm sure the coaching staff is upset... jobs can hinge on wins and losses. But that doesn't mean anyone in Student Affairs mishandled the situation.

So what would you say about other universities who are suspending there players 1-2 games for getting charged with felonies breaking beer bottles over peoples heads or getting in bar fights. But AQM gets into a fight with one person no charges and he gets suspended the whole semester? That makes sense to you? You must be part of the rowing squad. Or maybe the golf team?

The whole point of my "calm down" post was that some folks on this board were saying some pretty ugly things about PW. They woman is fair and she is just doing her job. What makes sense to me is to give her the benefit of the doubt. Believe me, she cheers on our football team just as much as anyone else. But she isn't going to give any kid a free allotment of broken noses before the rules of the school apply simply because he plays football.

We admire UF and other schools when they look the other way. Let's not be hypocrites.

Don't lump me into your glitter fest pal. I dont criticize ****. I want my school to win at all costs. I don't give a **** if UM is ranked 47th or 80th in academics, big ******* deal. Not once on an interview for grad school or interviews has someone said, "Oh ****, you went to UM they are ranked 47th". Usually the questions involve around how the football team is doing. Your new attitude is killing my school, and I wish you and the rest of the merit badge squad would **** off.

I went to UM because I grew up rooting for them in FOOTBALL. ******* like you have ruined my childhood memories.

The rational side of me says, this is some kind of damage control, maybe. Could they get a lawsuit from the kid who AQM supposedly had a problem with? Maybe they're scared that the kid will sue and try to drag the school into it.

Why are they putting football players together with regular students, anyway? Do zoos put lions in with gazelles? Mountain lions in with deer? It's like mixing apples and oranges.

This sounds like a Tad Foote special. Back in the day, they said they were going to eliminate the football dorms. I remember Tiger Clarke I think saying it was a bad idea, because football players like to roughhouse a lot, wrestling and stuff with each other, and it wouldn't be too good with regular students. ****, I wouldn't have wanted to room with some of the football players when I was in college, and I played in HS. Some of the guys were just semi-civilized animals, and even then they were doing Dianabol so they probably had a bit of roid rage already. (Maybe the guys are more civilized now, I don't know. When I'm around a college football player, they are very polite and civilized, not like when I was in school).

Suppose AQM drew a slightly built ambiguous male (if you know what I mean). The kid might have felt threatened just from a random AQM fart.

We don't know the facts, but there must be something behind this, and the school might be running scared. I don't know. I understand that in some schools they're even permitting males and females to room together in the same room. Is that true? Most likely he had a male roommate, more or less.

No one complained when we kicked a couple of rapists off the team because that is actually ****ed up. Eddie? Gabe Terry? AQM? Finnie? All guys that could be playing a part on this team that got kicked out for chicken**** infractions.

There are about 10 schools on the planet from which a degree actually moves the needle in a neutral setting. We aren't one of them. Get the **** over it, realize football is ******* different than the engineering department, and stop adding more hurdles for the team to jump over. Kid gets in a fight, pop him a couple of early games and move on.

Bad enough they already hired a staff that clearly doesn't have "it" and then stuck the players with the bill.

And I say all that as a Second generation Alumni that would love to send my kids there one day if I can afford it and the ******* ocean hasn't swallowed the city up whole.

Disagree with you there. Can't have rapists running loose on campus. That happens at FSU, but not the U. Finnie? Stole a laptop. Want thiefs running around on campus stealing other peoples' stuff? No. I don't know what Gabe Terry did, and I don't remember the Eddie Johnson deal. He was a mess though. Great player, but a mess.

I wouldn' send my kid to school where they have thiefs and rapists running around, unless I was poor and could only send my kid to FSU but I'd tell her to stay away from athletes.

Although I once lectured Tad Foote about the importance of football just before the '88 OB game, the one where we won the '87 NC. I was a little rough on him, pointing my finger and everything. I wish I had been drunk, then I'd have an excuse. I kind of wish I hadn't done it. It was probably something he'd heard a million times before.

Maybe it was displaced anger because he was married to J. William Fulbright's daughter, and I always disliked J. William Fulbright. If you know what I mean.
