Patke as STC

Hire a dedicated special teams coach. If u think abt it what other team u know had a missed gimme field goal, muffed point, and allowed a 4th down conversion by a slow as punter. This was an embarrassment on special teams

Kicker made a 42 yards and 32 yarders earlier in the game

That miss was on him

When did you start watching Miami?

Watch the special teams of the Butch squads. Watch how every return team was a threat to house one at any time. Watch how all the coverage teams were dominant. Watch how all the specialists were elite. Watch how we were able to pressure kicks.

UM has a long legacy of strong special teams play. It used to literally win games for us(West Virginia, Lousiville)

I remember watching the first Bowl Game against Alabama when we beat the Alabama team with Siran Stacey at tailback. I remember the announcers saying that we had allowed -1 return yards ALL SEASON or something ridiculous like that.

I remember Special teams demons like Tremain Mack.

We've lost our legacy of strong special teams play and it correlates with the downturn of this program.
Yes, in the sense that our roster is no longer loaded with future NFL Pro Bowlers running down the field on STs.

So you knew BEFORE the punt that was not returnable? Un fing believable

You can’t be this dumb. You don’t watch many football games do you?
So here’s your homework.....watch the next two weeks of college and pro football and tell me home many returns u see when a team is punting from midfield. You’ll be astonished at what you discover 😂😂😂

Taking a look around some elite teams it seems like they put an emphasis on their special teams coordinator.

Urban Meyer coached specials himself.
Saban hired Jeff Banks, a dedicated STC with experience at Texas A&M, Virginia, UTEP etc dating back to the 90s.
Georgia's dedicated STC has experience as the head guy at Auburn for four years.
LSU's has STC experience with the Saints and three prior college stints dating back decades (ECU, UNLV, Illinois)
Clemson's STC/TE has experience in ST in the 90s with Alabama, and had recent experience as the STC in Duke and Maryland before being hired.

I think Hartley proved that you can't stick anyone at STC, and if they don't know what they're doing it could be disastrous.

A guy like Saban using a coaching spot for a dedicated special teams guy proves to me a technical/experienced ST coach can make a worthwhile difference.

Does Patke have any experience at all in specials? What evidence did Manny really have to conclude that he can turn things around with Patke?

Great point you brought up, special teams definitely hurt us and helped gaytors not get steamrolled. We come down score 3points, punt the ball away, defense bout to get a 3 and out on the 1st series, special teams coverage not ready for the fake punt, 1st down, very next play, touchdown gaytors, than when you add in the jt4 Christmas gift, than the bubba baxa missed fieldgoal, in fact the 1st 3 points we got had to be backed up for a delay of game penalty, so patke's unit gets and F.

But still, even with all that crap, coach enos did diddley squat to help out our tackles, i dont know WTF he was thinking, but nelson and campbell wasnt going to all of a sudden turn into All-ACC perfomers by the 4th quarter, had irvin on the sidelines, but got mallory's light *** out their getting manhandled, whatever play was run to his side was basically null & void, and he didnt catch one pass, so what was the point, his time might come, but it wont be ag as inst this type of physical opposition!

Sinister, I agree with you. I think we would all agree that the hope is Patke turns the ST into an awesome unit, but based on the track record thus far, that would be too big of an assumption.

On paper, and up until now Patke is absolutely a JAG and should not have his position when you compare him to other top 25 schools’ staffs.

He was a middle manager at an oil rig and then coached at a Christian school equivalent of a juco before latching onto Manny. Plus he has no recruiting toes to SFL and it’s not like he’s cleaning up in Texas.

All that said, I hope it works out for him, but on paper, Alabama and Clemson have GAs on their staff with a better resumes than Patke
You get what you pay for. I hope Manny is smart enough to cut bait with these type of project coaches
