Pate on Miami vs. ND

His positions aren’t inconsistent— Mario teams have a history of starting strong and then limping to the finish line.

That’s cool, except it doesn’t acknowledge the fact that we had several people calling him an idiot and he doesn’t know what he is talking about and you can’t take him serious etc. THOSE are the people I’m referring to.

ND has recruited and developed very well in the last few years, so stem to stern they are comparably talented to us and might even arguably have a slight edge (arguably). But, the matchups definitely advantage us. The only way we don't win this game (all things being equal) is if we are 2- on TO's.

Outside of that, because of the matchups, we really should win this and then when you toss in the Hard Rock, all the more so, we should get the W.

But...ND has a very good coaching staff and are very talented, so...we shall see...

I've said this a few times but it bears repeating.....ND played THREE road games last year. The entire season. Three. One was against Purdue, who was the worst P4 team in America.

The other two were A&M and USC.

The A&M game was tied at the 2 minute warning. ND did have the ball near the redzone, so they were in control, but it was a 13-13 game at the 2 minute warning. Very, very close game.

The USC game, ND was outgained by over 100 yards, 557 to 436. USC had 29 first downs to ND's 23. The game was 35-28, ND, and USC had the ball, 1st and 10 on the ND 21 with 4 minutes left. Very, very winnable for USC. They threw back to back pick sixes and lost by 14.

So ND played 2 halfway decent teams on the road last year, and were in dogfights with them until the very end. They did lose at home to Northern Illinois.

Let's see how they perform on the road with a QB who has never played before.

This fan base (at least internet based) is so desperate for validation but also wants to be the flag bearer for we don’t care about nothing but this U/us against the world mentality.

It’s just facts. A lot of ****** college teams that have constantly 60k fans week in week out. Miami is just too big of a city and too small a school (student wise) to sustain that.
You can point to maybe two schools in Miami's situation that have better attendance, USC and Washington. Outside of those two, every school in a major city with pro sports has lower attendance than Miami. Pitt, BC, SMU, TCO, Houston, Minnesota, UCLA, UCF...

Valid stuff

I don’t want another Dawson debate senselessly but as much as I like him I thought we started to play into other teams game plans a couple times last year. I didn’t like that.

Notre Dame will probably want this game to be ugly. We could win an ugly game sure but I would rather see us dictate the style of play than respond to theirs

I actually think we’re on a great upwards trajectory as far as the premier team to go see. I don’t see a Mario team ever falling below 8 wins again. The dolphins are dysfunctional and no one believes in them. The Heat don’t have a star. The Marlins are, well it’s baseball so who cares.

Canes will be the hottest team in the city for the foreseeable future.
True, as long as you don't like hockey

This game is not about Notre Dame.

This game is about Miami.

The Hurricanes win the game if the offense plays to its standards and that the defense improves by 50% over last season. Don’t think the latte is so hard. Miami doesn’t need the 1991 or 2001 defenses, allowing only 10pts per game.

Control the ball and score on offense, play stout against the run on defense and deny explosive plays. Make the Irish earn every yard.

I agree. Fortunately, Miami is multidimensional on offense while Notre Dame is one dimensional.

I’m hoping Beck’s experience will allow him a little leeway from Dawson. Plan and play for some big moments rather than take the air out of the ball.
