Pate is still a believer

lesson - never go full honey boo-boo panties. look man I appreciate your optimism, but Mario is a straight up **** bag clown as a coach esp after his response to the call and what they did in practice the week leading up to UNC per Jay Cane. they haven't learned and likely will never. hes as stubborn as golden but well liked bc hes a cane and not a psU fan

What did he do in practice? I missed that part.

Agreed. Didn't need a break, but sure would have liked one. Because even with going full boo-boo head, if a kid who literally never puts the ball on the ground just doesn't put the ball on the ground, AND/OR since the ball actually wasn't even on the ground, if the referees just make the clearly correct call, we survive full reeetard mode.

We didn't deserve to, don't get me wrong. A decision that egregious deserves penalty. But it'd still be kinda cool if you could make a call that bad and yet still survive it it, yanno, you got a break.
Or if Kinchens just plays within the system and covers his area/zone in a prevent defense (or cover 6 or 4 or whatever was called.

Everything that could’ve gone wrong at the end of that game went wrong.

There is a lot of luck in turnovers. It’s a proven fact driven by data. Right now, we are on the wrong side of it. That can change. Doesn’t mean it will. But it can. Hopefully it does soon, as in 72 hours from now soon.

We've always been on the wrong side of it. Our regression to the mean would be:
-Opposing QB throwing a TD pass while his body is sideways and mid air falling.
-Our CB not going for the INT, but batting the ball down as he should, and still somehow falling into the WR's hand
-Roughing the passer call on a defender who got chip blocked into the air and falls at the QB's leg as he's making the pass.
-Our safety batting down a punt pass that would've easily been picked off by our corner.

It's crazy how many ridiculous situations have happened to this team the past decade or so that just should never happen.

Correct. Nobody is perfect. Defenders make incredible plays as well. That all plays into it.

It does not play into TVD’s interceptions this year. They’ve been bad throws right at defenders. Maybe he cleans it up, maybe he doesn’t. But they haven’t been “unlucky.”

in point of fact, on TVD's interceptions:
  • one was on George for having a brain fart on the choice route and not holding his leverage. (High school mistake)
  • one was a great play by the corner in HTF on what was a now route, and probably the OC's fault for the call
  • one was a sight cover, which drive me and everyone who has ever played and coached the position nuts, but that's often a pre snap miss
so the idea that he just decided to throw the ball into the gut of the defender on every one of his picks, is kind of inaccurate.

Oregon is 106th in penalties this year....after being 85th last year.
I'm talking about Oregon under Mario and Miami under Mario.
Penalties per game/Penalty yards per game
Oregon 2018 #33/#42
Oregon 2019 #79/#114
Oregon 2020 #61/ #62
Oregon 2021 #111/#107
Miami 2022. #108/#103
Miami 2023. #117/#126

These are Mario's last 6 years as a HC including the season to date this year. Outside of 2018 and a middle of the road 2020 the numbers are abysmal.

It was an oversimplification. I understand not everyone was his fault. Especially the George mistake. My point was they weren’t “unlucky” they were all preventable, meaning it wasn’t a tipped ball, 50/50 ball, somebody slipping, etc.

The conversation was about bad breaks on turnovers.

Didn’t need a break 2 weeks ago. That game was literally in the bag. Despite a shaky performance the players on the field played well enough to win. Mario just went full reeetard and found the one in a million way to lose it.

a 9-3 record and a decent bowl win looks a lot better than 8-4 or worse going into the offseason
Idk that’s there’s a way to stomach this season after the GT loss. No matter what happens. Let’s break this down by record.

5-7 - missed a bowl game bc you didn’t take a knee

6-6 - you could’ve been 7-5 and two games better than last year. Yes you suck but it’s still a step forward

7-5 - 8 wins sounds so much better than 7 and a chance to get to 9 in a bowl

8-4 - 9 wins is a giant leap forward after last year. Bowl game to get to 10 wins, which is a massive deal

9-3 - You could’ve won 10 which is elite company at Miami and only done once in 2 decades. Depending on the other teams, that loss could’ve kept you out of the ACC champ game.

10-2 - (not happening it’s just for the exercise) You blew your chance at 11-1 and an ACC title shot. That would have given automatic legitimacy to Mario being the head man here. And cements Miami as a future contender.

Not all of them
