I was a huge fan of Bryan Pata (and so too were his teammates apparently), so i do not mean this as any sort of disrespect to the deceased or his family and friends in the least bit...just trying to get my head rapped around some of the things i have seen posted on this board and others about him. When he was killed, i remember people talking about hsi involvement in Hatian chariaties. I forgot how this was claimed to potentially have a connection to his murder, but i was wondering if anyone can throw something out about that?

also, I saw a claim on here, i beleive (just the other day), that said it could have had something to do with the FIU brawl. Can anyone expand on that? Feel free to private message me if you'd like.

Thanks

and R.I.P Pata - a great cane!

He got killed less than a month after the FIU brawl, so there's some obvious potential connection to it. Especially if you believe the notion that Miami players were being watched/stalked after that.

A connection to the FIU brawl is the most innocuous of theories. Not that anyone ever deserves to be killed like that but this definitely wasn't a Sean Taylor type of situation if you believe any of the smoke.

After watching the 30 for 30 I figured they might have been gunning for Phillips, assuming what he said was true. He's the one throwing the last sucker punch in the fight, he parks next to Pata in that lot, he's sketchy as **** to begin with.

My guess is that it was just another random act of violence. Very hard to solve those cases if ballistics are no help, and there are no witnesses.

A Miami football player getting murdered execution style on campus is no random act of violence.

That area where his apartment was isn't exactly a hotbed of random shootings. Going down this path is only gonna besmirch the kid's name though and it's already a sad enough situation that nobody has ever been charged.

Wasn't in campus. It was in an apt complex near dade land, about 10 minutes south of campus. Good number of students living there, cheap rent close to school, but not as many students as say, Floodlum.

Worst feeling ever as a Canes flying up to the Maryland game the following weekend and watching their fans rush the field after they beat us. They were ranked, we weren't. Still rushed the field. It was disgusting.

This is from the lead investigator on the Pata case...

"There are a few things Dominguez does know, however. The shooting is not believed to be gang-related, nor is it believed to be retaliation for something Bryan did to someone else. Dominguez says the weapons found in Pata's apartment are not believed to be a sign that Pata was hanging in bad circles, and he has no reason to believe Pata's killing was tied to the non-fatal shooting of Willie Cooper, Pata's UM teammate, just four months prior.

Dominguez also confirmed that Pata's shooting is not thought to be related to the FIU-UM on-field brawl, which took place just 24 days before Pata was killed. Dominguez wouldn't comment on whether he believes that Pata's killer was someone Pata knew, but for Pata's family, that seems like a virtual certainty."

The family seems really open to the idea that Bryan Pata knew his killer or that the killer was on UMs football team. They even went so far to say it might have been a setup and the people around him leading up to his death were acting fishy. Personally I wouldn't put much into what the family says unless there is evidence behind it but there doesn't seem to be much evidence at all. It sounds like at this point there just hoping someone comes forward and unless that happens then it will remain a cold case.

Vary hard to solve, yes. Random act of execution? Absolutely not.

Some chick who was distantly related to Pata told me in high school it got handled in the streets in regards to the case not being "solved"...but who knows...

Heard they were pretty classless as fans in general that game.

So in other words, a witness was killed or the cops were payed off? It's a shame, I just wish justice could be done and we could know what happened.

Yep, they were 'payed' off. Another PHD on the board.

The cops have a very good idea of who it was but nobody will talk.
