Overrated recruiting?

The correlation between recruiting rankings and actual results is the strongest correlation there is in CFB. Always has been always will be.

And before someone comes in here talking about “yeah but look at xyz program.” There are anomalies and exceptions to every rule. Find a better correlation to winning in CFB.

I remember seeing a chart awhile back comparing recruiting rankings to wins over the last however many years, and this may come as a surprise but Miami actually performed relatively in line with how it had recruited. There were a handful of programs that performed relatively better or worse to a significant degree, but the vast majority performed in line with the expected results based off recruiting rankings.

Our strategy to go all out on paying RT is certainly unique. Id like to see us expand that theory to some more critical positions.
That’s the thing about Beard that gets me

From what I have heard and gathered pretty much every single portal and recruiting season we have swung for the fences at WR and have missed at a big rate going all the way back to 2022

It’s also not just a Beard thing people were saying this about guys like Addae as well before we finally let him go and now the new guys are showing a potentially big difference

I think the WR position can be explained as easily as these guys look at the QB room and say naw I'm good.

Unless you're coming in with a QB, like for example if Keys wants to flip to Tennessee in part because of Brandon, I don't think it plays much of a factor. By now these kids understand how the portal works, and it's not like if I'm a HS senior right now I have any idea who the QB at my college will be when I'm a sophomore, or at least if he'll be any good. Is Keys going to LSU (for now) because of the QB room there? I guess he'd be looking at Van Buren to be the QB next year when he's a freshman? Does that kid really influence your decision. I'd lean no.

Money, position coach, coordinator, head coach. If all those things are lined up and trump the other options, that's where you're gonna go most of the time.

Not overrated but the calculus has changed and the strategy will inevitably change as well. Coaches now have to be thinking if this is a guy who can't get on the field right away there's a good chance they'll just leave before they do, especially if they were a highly rated recruit. And then there's the $$.
That’s what my buddy was saying in a nutshell, but he added as well saying if they can’t get in field day one we shouldn’t waste our time.

We will always find local talent that wants to stay home it’s why I don’t like using Trader and Toney as pros for Beard. Paul Williams landed Tracey Howard was he a good recruiter?

Bigtime WRs want to play at bigtime programs and we aren’t it. Not yet anyway.

Most of the competitive teams aren't using the portal the way Miami is for the QB position. You seem to dismiss the idea, but going the 5th year senior route doesn't exactly offer much longer term to high schoolers.

Previously I’d have agreed with you. But Miami brought in a blue-chip QB last class and another this class. How good those kids are remains to be seen, but there aren’t a ton of programs doing much better than that in the 2 recent classes, and there are WR prospects going to teams with worse situations. What you’re saying is obviously a factor, but I don’t think it’s nearly as simple as you’re making it out to be. Again my example on Keys, LSU doesn’t even have a QB committed this class at all, I don’t think.

They expanded it to DLINE and portal QBs the last 2 years.
