Our RB's

D$'s questions was "How many college teams are winning big with smaller, pass-catching backs?"

The question had nothing to do with blocking. But since we're been discussing blocking, I completely see why Henderson sounds like a bad answer.

Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama), James Cook (Georgia), Bucky Irving/Jordan James (Oregon) would've been better.

But I'll give Reason #6 on the subject of Henderson's blocking:

During Ohio St's 4 game NC playoff run, Henderson put up:

Rushing
- 36 - 265 yds - 7.4 ypc - 4 TD's
Receiving - 8 - 149 yds - 18.6 ypc - 1 TD's
Pass Blocking - 10 pass block snaps on 119 dropbacks

Why pass blocking isn't that important - If pass blocking is so important, and Henderson is one of the best pass blockers ever, then why in OSU's 4 most important games was Henderson pass blocking on only 8% of their dropbacks?

What Really Matters - I'd say Henderson's contribution to OSU's NC was 90% the plays he made running & receiving, 10% pass blocking. And I feel that's being very generous.

But @DMoney @RVACane - what do you think?
I love it! I’ve been on the B Shaw RB bandwagon.

I love D$. I really do appreciate this site, all his takes, and the content. He's a smart dude.

But I also enjoy watching how far he paints himself into a corner until hitting eject is his only option :ROFLMAO:

Just wait, in ~10 years, he'll be making posts that agree with the **** you argued with him about throughout the previous decade.

Can't wait for D$'s "Reflecting on Mark Walton: My Column" to kill some time in the offseason of 2035. Maybe a little "Most overrated running back since 2000" Topic of the Day where he throws a lil MARK WALTON in there.

Enjoy those future little moments in good health.

Only thing I would say here is I would never, personally, classify Henderson as a “smaller pass-catching back.” He averaged less than 2 receptions per game over his career, and less than 20% of his scrimmage yards were from receiving yards. As for the small part, I have zero belief he actually played at 202, he looked significantly bigger than that to me.

Anyway. I don’t really have a dog in this fight lol. I’m a big fan of our running back room and that’s all I care about. Just get Lyle the ball more than the others.

Zamir White (227 pounds) was the leading rusher on that Georgia team. The other two didn't win titles.

So to counter your example, I'll go with every national champion since the turn of the century. You seem to have some time, so you can look them up.

As for the rest, it's been addressed already. Running is the most important important quality in a running back. But backs that don't block don't play. This is common sense to all but the Walton-deranged.

And @BoxingRobes, I'll let you commiserate with @bshaw28 on things I forgot about ten years ago. It seems my battles leave an emotional mark.

This isn't true, but go ahead and cook.

THERE YOU GO DMONEY - YOU GET AN ATTABOY!!

The point you're making about bigger RB's now.....Me and @BoxingRobes made this point years ago when Ajay Allen transferred here - Ajay Allen RB from Nebraska hits the portal

- You weren't there when yet when I said Gus Edwards should start over Walton. (I'll take the NFL Scoreboard on that one)
- You weren't quite there when Knighton and Parrish were our starters.
- You didn't exactly agree with us in 2023, but you were getting there.....

Like @BoxingRobes said, it might take you a while to catch up - but I'm glad you're here now!

Sounds like an insult a product of the florida gators academic institution would say.

I just talked to my youngin’s position coach as he’s switching from DB to RB this season based upon what he did against Mater Dei in the playoffs in a losing effort:

From his mouth:

-Most important traits he looks for in a RB is speed, burst (the two r not synonymous), vision, hands, run through contact, football IQ.

Football IQ was defined as the ability to read defenses, but that’s more of a QB thing to call for blitz pick ups. He said pass-pro is important, but it’s the least of what he’s looking for. As long as they can get in the way to buy time based upon the offense they run, it’s good enough.

He said RB pass-pro is really important for long, drawn out pass plays; however, if he’s got a back that avg. 6+ ypc, he’s in, period. On obvious pass plays he may switch out, but he’s not trading pass-pro over production. Ideally you’ll want both, but one is way more important than the other.

No amount of common sense can talk D$ out of his love for Mark Walton.

Miami will win another NC before the Walton/Tebow/D$ throuple breaks up.

Crazy times we are living in brother. This is the generation that believes anything as long as they agree with who the messenger is.

If he coaches actual football for a living, ask him if this is the single dumbest thing he’s ever heard in his history of understanding the English language

If you think that, even while blacked out, there’s 0.0 reason to ever talk ball with you.

If you actually type it and hit submit where other humans can read it, it should be a felony.
Coming from the ***** that tried to tell me about Jamyr Gibbs pass blocking. Lol, ok chief. You know who puts an emphasis on running backs blocking. Teams with poor OL and bad running backs. The Chiefs loved Carson Steele and Semaji Perine.
