Our problems today lie in the past

Unless you think Miami should be hiring guys who have never been a HC and whose average defense rated in the 30s for his career, then I fail to see why people put any effort into finding some magic secret reason we suck other than the completely out of his league coach we hired.
to be honest, at this point, a lot of people who saw the stupidity of hiring Diaz are surprised that we are as good as 3-4 .. lol

Hate to be “that guy” but have we glossed over how much the sanctions in 11/12 set us back? The official sanctions landed in 13 if I’m not mistaken..you lose 9 each year from 14,15,16..then u have roster attrition..so u look at our actual full class, it impacted us a whole lot when I look back at the classes
Ive posted the details previously, but we’ve been well below 85 players for a number of years now, really since Shannon was coach. We’re at 73 players presently, including the 4 walk ons that got scholarships.

Honestly, Was is truly killing us is a historically bad OL. It’s negated every other advantage we have. With Perry and Williams both suffering shoulder injuries, at this rate Peyton will see significant playtime towards the end of the season.

Facts..I think as a fanbase we just glossed over the numbers..nobody wants to here excuses because it’s a result based business...but facts are facts. I have t thought about those sanctions for a minute but it’s safe to say we still feel the effects today

In 2015 and 2016 Miami's recruiting classes were a disaster.

What is left of those kids are now seniors and there are so very little of them and few are difference makers.and we are paying the price for this now.

of the 2015 class Robert knowles and Scott Patchan are still on the team...neither was a highly rated recruit back then and neither is a difference maker today.
Larence Cager was in that class too but transferred and also wasn't a difference maker.

of the 2016 class remaining players are SHaq, Pickney, McCloud(now redshirting so not even playing), Mike Irvin, Romeo Finley and Pat Bethel.
The LB were difference makers, Bethel is solid if unspectacular and Finley isn't having a great year either. None of these players were 5 star recruits and I doubt any will be high draft picks.

The rest of the seniors on our roster transferred in and there are no seniors on the offensive line which is all Al Golden's fault as he was the primary recruiter of these classes.

Then you go into 2017 and this is all on Richt. HIs evaluations on recruits were terrible to say the least.

Here are all the busts:
Kai Leon Herbert
Zack Dykstra
Zillontae Hillary
DJ Johnson( transferred)
Deandre Wilder(injury)
Brian Polendey (is he still on the team)
Evidence Njoku (or lack thereof)
Steed
Cade Weldon
Bradley Jennings??
Derrick Smith(transferred, aweful in coverage)
Zach Feagles(transferred, couldn't punt)

It's hard to believe this was the 12th rated class in the nation and 2nd best in the ACC when out of 25 enrollees half of them either left or just couldn't play!!

When you move into the 2018 class thing start to get a little better but we are literally missing an entire class which is why we are not at full strength and the players who are difference makers are in the 2018 and 2019 classes only. It also doesn't help that we have had 3 coaches in the last 4 years as this constant turnover generates even more player turnover and poor recruiting classes.

Real player evaluation and recruiting along with redshirting and building up our roster to full strength is currently under way. We just can't win with 70 something players on the roster and the upperclassmen being outplayed by true freshman! Hopefully the new players will bring new attitudes of competition and sticking it out instead of running away from the competition.
We have won the coastal division once in ever. Our problems are resplendent and abundant.

I’ve got a question for y’all on that “manny hasn’t landed anyone” do u guys base this off the 247 “so and so get credit for the signee”..I mean does manny not get any credit for the defensive recruiting..he was after all, the DC..and we’ve landed National prospects on that side of the ball every year he’s been year
Lol

Recruiting has been bad for years some fans don’t realize this.
Truth of the matter is, we don't have a lot of talent and we don't have to coaches. The whole program needs revamping. It really is a rebuild in order to reach elite status and we aren't bringing in that type of talent nor we do have the coaches to win with the talent we do have.

OL has unquestionably been a huge negative factor. However, we've lost four games primarily due to special teams:

  • Many missed FGs and a PAT
  • A couple of successful fake punts
  • Muffed punt (UF)

As poor as the OL play has been, we would have probably escaped with at least three more wins if simple 20-30 yard kicks had been made.

I hate this “if only” game...it’s just coming up with more excuses. Regardless of these ST miscues, we really shouldn’t be in a game with the teams we’ve lost too (besides UF). The “if only” game is a two way street as well...If only Felipe Franks doesn’t try to hand us the game with all his turnovers does the missed FG even come into play. The fact is if we have to come up with excuses for losing to VT, UNC, and GT (and struggling against CMU) just tells you we have bigger issues.

There's some truth to what you're saying, but you've missed the obvious.

Our worst classes are still more talented than GTs best.

**** man, amen!! I’ve been trying to say the same thing...but you summed it up much more concisely!!!

People need to quit using the word elite around here. We are not in the CFB Playoffs...we are trying to just win the ACC Coastal!!

The recruiting issue is valid and no doubt may be an issue for at least 1 to 2 more years. But it's hard to reconcile even with the lack of recruits how this staff can lose to the likes of GT which as we all know does not have the personnel for the new type of offense they have now implemented.
And, hard to excuse away the performance over a bad MAC team.
There is clearly a glaring problem concerning discipline in regards to missed assignments, poor tackling, penalties.

In the end it does come down to coaching and development. We have had players here who could get away from it based on talent alone but for the most part we have seen guys actually look worse as the years go on i.e. oline, receivers, linebackers and corners. So unfortunate, especially when I live in Ohio and get to see a first year head coach in Ryan Day take over arguably one of the most successful programs since 2000 make all of the right moves in his staff to put his kids in the best position to succeed. Another example, look at LSU and the jump they made to that offense from last year. Must be fu***** nice to have!

if players cannot transition from high-school to college level football or for whatever reason cannot be developed, recruiting class rankings mean nothing. but for years now, we have not seen the level of player development at Miami that is necessary to be an elite program and compete for and win championships.
Exactly....if a four star is ranked high and plays corner and does well in college but runs a 4.8 and has a bad cone drill time chances are he will not play to that four star level. This is what a lot of Miami’s fans and coaches seem to not understand, the last coach to understand this was fuqin hurling brown when he challenged dorito. Our evals are **** we get some guys here and there but not enough man and it shows on Saturday’s and sundays

We don’t develop them anyway.
Yup that too

But a lot are who they are, u watch the nfl and the butch years u would see on Sunday cane on cane violence. Now u match helmets on the field Sunday’s and see so many Alabama LSU Ohio state helmets. Just great elite players all around on Sunday not canes anymore it’s super sad.

Recruiting has been bad for years some fans don’t realize this.

It’s funny how some who are staunch slurpers tried to justify our attrition. They mentioned Bama, UGA, Clemson, OSU to name a few. This beta argument have allowed them to feel good about the direction of this program. Dummies don’t realize that when those aforementioned programs lose a blue chip, they are replacing them w a blue chip. These imbeciles don’t realize that if a couple of blue chips don’t pan out, there’s another 15 to choose from.

We are in no position to miss evaluate, load this roster full of “hidden gems”, or lose blue chips to the portal. Every year is a fcking rebuild b/c they can’t get their chit together.
