OT -Went to the Rams-Chiefs game...

what a show, a great night of entertainment

Some things stood out - the concepts of Reid and McVery are insane, the route combos, the play-calling, the overall system. I loved my end zone seats, as you could see plays develop and their formations. Goff and Mahomes are special, they both have real arm talent but do it in different ways

- the crossing routes were killing both teams and when you layer your routes and threaten all parts of the field, you have wide open spaces in which to get guys running free. Yeah, crossing routes, ya don't say...

- both teams basically did the bulk of their work in the spread. Yeah, imagine that.

- Love the way Reid moves Tyreek Hill all over the chess board.

- Coaching matters. Under Jeff Fisher, Goff looked like a complete bust. Now with McVey, he is a surgeon. Yeah, systems, concepts and play-calling matters. Funny, he's now 'executing' at a high level when he looked like he couldn't play just 2 years ago. His anticipation and ability to throw guys open is unreal. You don't appreciate it till you see it from the end zone perspective for a full game

- Oh, are people still talking about boycotting the NFL?

-As much as I admire coach McVey, IMO, he got away from Gurley and it nearly cost him

- but overall a great experience to be at this game(I hadn't been to a NFL game in decades,), seems like our city has finally embraced the Rams.

- and finally, it's too bad it was past Richt's bed time, he could've learned something( sorry, couldn't resist)
Corch ****head can't learn because he thinks he knows it all. Don't even compare mangos to dog poo

It’s depressing though ... to think Jeff Fisher had foles, Keemun and Goff on the same roster and couldn’t do anything with them

The only thing more explosive than Richts offense is the exploding diarrhea I get watching it

Interested in your take on this Lu...lot of conjecture that the way forward for a guy like McVay is to draft guys like Goff in the first round (essentially system QBs), groom for a few years and then trade before they come up for an extension. With the pick you get in the trade you just draft the next version of Goff. Sounds interesting to me but not sure if I am under-valuing Goff.
As a general strategy, I think it's unnecessarily risky. Is Drew Brees a system QB? I've seen arguments for both sides. If I'm Sean Payton, would I trade Drew Brees for a 1st rounder or two and risk finding an equal or more valuable replacement? My gut tells me no. Of course, we'd need to consider more details - cost of Brees/Goff vs replacement, crop of alternatives, etc. But, especially in today's game, if you have a QB who can make your system go, the only even comparable position is a pass rusher who disrupts that type of guy.

As much as I admire guys like Payton, Mcvay (even when he was in Washington), Belichick and others, I think these "trend" bandwagons pick up way too much steam too quickly and wreck as they get out of control. Mcvay and others are taking advantage of the way the game is setup right now. You can't hit QBs. You can't touch eligible WRs in the middle of the field. You can't hit guys hard over the middle of the field. Watch most of their plays and it looks like a wave of crossing routes to both sides of the field. It's like watching unstoppable lava. Playing Safety now must be a **** nightmare. Yesterday, 2nd and 3rd reads were so open it was incredible. They'd gain 12-15 yards a play. Like if we're doing a skeleton drill in HS. There'll be a regression to the mean, as always. Will be curious to see how they adjust then.

The cool thing about UM football is we don't have to worry about regression because we're not really riding any kind of wave or taking advantage of anything. So we've got that going for us.

Mcvay's primary advantage is a philosophy of attack and the ability to process information so quickly he's able to continuously execute the philosophy. He's smart as can be for an NFL coach and yet surrounds himself with some of the sharpest eyes in the game. It's impressive to observe at such an early part of his career. Presume the trajectory will level off, but like Sean Payton once did, Mcvay seems the type to reinvent or tweak a scheme to fit a broader, aggressive philosophy. We're a universe away from that as a program (at least offensively).
And he's just 32!

What's crazy is we have a guy in Jeff Thomas who is probably closer to Tyreek Hill than anyone else in the country and we can't seem to get him involved to save our lives.
What's even more crazy, is that Richt has had success with running backs in the past. You figured he would get some special plays for JT.

Cool arena football game. Soon they will have flags on their hips.... The ref that called hitting a defenceless receiver on the first drive set the tone for the whole game. And they are fooling us with more scoring while defence is being taken out of the game

tough to say McVay messed up since Gurley got hurt early in the game and wasn't playing at 100% and was actually getting subbed out quite a bit. they dont think the ankle injury will affect him by the next gae post bye week

Secondly the Chiefs were committing to stop the run. The Rams OLine was struggling to run block against the Jones, Bailey, Houston, and Ford.

I dont know how much input he has but thats mostly Mcvay
Yeah but hes definitely learning either way. no way in **** you are under Reid or McVay right now and dont take some of it with you when you leave. Bears offense is playing well with Chiefs old OC too now.

Thing is u just dont know because KC is still clicking even without the OC they lost. Some guys arent creative like that....i ask my boy who i trust with coaches and he said stay away and I value his opinion on coaches. I know hes not always right but thats a big time gamble

its not about if they can operate with/out them its about if they learned enough while there. Andy Reid is the guru. You hope that the staff beneath him learns enough from him to take what he taught them and make it their own.

Big concepts like Bunch Formations, Crossing routes, HEAVY Play Action (regardless how much you actualy run), Tempo, Specific concepts, or whatever can all be easily adopted.

McVay has such a offensive plethora of riches he can underuse a great RB like Gurley and still score in the 50s.

And those all yellow uniforms are awful.
