OT - UNC has hired Belichick

They just went from Mack Brown to Bill Belichick

That’s a win

I didn’t say he’d build a juggernaut or be the next Saban. They just fielded the most embarrassing team they’ve had there in lord knows how long and got the most famous coach of our generation
Yea he’s better than Mack for sure, he needs a recruiting staff though asap. Idk who he knows but I don’t think he can just go the nfl route for coaches. He has to get college guys that have recruiting ties

I haven’t really kept up with the story but like how the **** did he even end up there anyway? What’s the connection?

Wait, what? An NFL GM running a college team? CIS said it was dumb, what exactly would Zo do?And said GM is talking about "player development", CIS said that was just a buzz word.

It's certainly possible that he could dominate CFB. He could also fail dramatically.

We shall see.
Agreed. It could be terrible UNC was down bad already. Ironically it was a QB (Maye) that was salvaging that program

It’s so bizarre but same time if the program itself is mobilizing in a similar way as Miami, then that’s good for them long term, or at least much better than the floundering they would have been doing

The more CiS is telling me it’s a terrible idea the more rings I see him getting

Probably most valid post in this thread. It could go a lot of ways.

But it says a lot that he’s going from the majors to the minors. And it’s not like he’s doing it out of principle (the whole developing young men thing is pretty dead in todays college world).

Him and Lombardi are smart and big names in the football world, so it might be foolish to bet against them. But also they have no college experience and it’s a different game in a different world. Even simple stuff like practice time limits.

Will be interesting for sure… but there’s no question this is a win for UNC. They might displace Colorado as the public interest story.

Bills pops was on the staff in the 50’s I think. Bart Scott just cooked him on radio as I’m driving……said he is going to find out fast it ain’t the nfl and he will struggle.

The ideal set-up would be Mario as GM to focus on player acquisition… high school recruiting/transfer portal and a Belichick-type HC who is good at in-game strategy/X’s and O’s.

Maybe if this new GM thing in college football takes off and becomes a prestigious position, Mario would consider moving to that role full time… similar to Brad Stevens transitioning from HC to GM with the Celtics.

I think he will pull a reverse Nick Saban. He will be at UNC for 2 years max before going back to nfl. Some desperate nfl team will eventually give him everything he wants.

Belicheck has a massive ego and he wants 2 more nfl seasons to beat Shula’s record. I think he wants his son to take over the UNC gig from him. My guess is UNC knows this but they need to make a splash hire after Brown so they are going with it.

College football HC is a **** of a lot more work than NFL HC.
Only if you care about long-term success. If you just want to only portal shop yearly and have a nice slush fund backing you up, you may not have to work so hard. And unlike the NFL there is basically no limits in place for talent acquisition.... And even if there were there aren't rules BB isn't willing to bend or break....

They're literally barely going to care about HS and just get like 20 portal guys per year lol.
