OT: Sumlin Gone

Nothing preventing winning at aTm. Crazy fan base, boosters, cash, facilities, TV appearances, SEC pumped up image, recruiting base (including Houston around the corner), heritage, etc. The right guy can win there, period. It’s not so easy getting all the chips to fall in place, but being aTm isn’t the problem.

All that is true....except possibly the recruiting base. Hearing more and more intelligent people question if Texas high school football has become overrated.

Yep. ATM has a sh1tty location to draw recruits to. Plus, they are competing with Texas, TCU, OU, OSU, once upon a time Baylor, LSU, Houston, etc.

They are 90 minutes from Houston, plenty of talent. Overrated, schmoverrated. Like S FL kids, some pan out, some stink. The right guy can get it done. They do compete with the other area schools like we do with UF, FSU and all the OOS pricks who like to poach.

aTm seems like it's one of the most overrated programs every year. Once they beat Bama that long assed time ago, everyone was convinced they were headed for superstardom as a program. Of course, they are who most thought they were...an average team at best. I've never understood their hype train.

Seriously, look at their history.

The definitely have an over-inflated sense of self worth.

Gene Stallings' BEST year was 7-4.

Jackie Sherrill's BEST year was 10-2.

Texas A&M was, is, and always will be hot garbage. I don't care if they pay a high salary, that's what comes with the territory when you take the SEC TV money. But the SEC has 12 teams, and only one can be champ each year. And until Saban retires, it ain't gonna be Texas A&M.

Nick Saban doesn't think Texas high school football talent is overrated. He's recently pulled several out of the backwater where I live (Golden Triangle), which is hardly the hotspot of Texas football. There is a **** of a lot of talent here, as you might expect for a state with the population count the size of Texas. Sure, you have to sift through quite a bit of chaff to get to he wheat, but the wheat is there, and that is what recruiting services and scouts are paid to do.

Sumlin's claim to fame was Manziel and Evans. Once they left, he struggled mightily.

QBs and HC often rise and fall with each other. Even Saban took a little hit by letting Jimbo steal Rapist away, but Saban doesn't rely on QB as much.

Going back, even the Bear didn't win it all when there.

Kliff is terrible!!! anyone see the game he blew at home vs KSt? Bad

Yeah, but what you're missing is that aTm fans believe their team belongs among the college football elite. Texas Tech fans don't harbor any such illusions.

Should've negged you for deferential Saban treatment.

That said, I'm saying potentially overrated from where it USED to be or was perceived to be. Wake me up when a team filled of exclusively Texas kids wins a title. And don't point to the recruiting rankings that very well could still be buoyed by Texas' image.
