OT: Remembering 9/11

You truley are a piece of sh*t
Don't really want to argue. The fact remains we attacked the wrong country, destroyed infrastructure, and were involved in the destabilization in that region in years prior. Its a symptom of us really not having the experience of having an outside country invading us, controlling our politics, and razing every city from border to border, for an attack carried out by a group sponsored by a different state.

Yet nobody cares about the millions of innocent Iraqis butchered as a result of American retaliation.

Nope. Not many died from our invasion. They were to busy surrendering. Now, they took to butching each other afterward but that is normal over there. Bush took out the crazy Sunni, Sadam who kept the insane Shi’a block into Iran. Then our Shi’a president decide to take out Sunni leaders wherever he could and preserve the two Shi’a leaders. The slaughter is internal. I do free we should have never attacked unless it was Iran.

Very good accurate description and explanation for how it evolved that way, but I really don't think it was proper in this thread. There are 9/11 threads everywhere today and the ones unfolding best are simple tributes and reflection.

Heck, I wouldn't have posted what you wrote, and I never care what anybody thinks

The cold fact is that Saddam had been dlcking us and the UN around since 91 when we decided not to pursue their army into Iraq when we forced them from Kuwait. We know they had WMDs. Every bit of it was inventoried, logged, and tagged for disposal--a disposal process that we and the UN were to supervise and confirm. Right after 9/11 when we wanted to inspect that process, as per our legal right under UN 1491, they tried to play the shell game and say they didn't know where the shlt was. It was a very wrong time to be doing both that and offering rewards to the families of the hijackers and other terrorists.

Revisionist historians want to paint us in the wrong because we never found the bulk of what we were looking for ignore the fact that we were never supposed to have to look. The dismantlement and disposal of their WMD program was supposed to be transparent and open to inspection.

This is a rabbit hole I'm sure is a bad fit for a football message board but you're absolutely right about the revisionist history about the timeframe just prior to us going into Iraq. Hussein (for a myriad of reasons) repeatedly called what he thought was our bluff regarding inspections and he and unfortunately a lot of innocents paid the price. But that's the way the world and government work- entire populations suffer or thrive based off the decisions and power of a few.

Don't try to speak the truth to this person. It is obvious that this person knows nothing of history besides what gets pumped into his/her brain by some agenda driven propaganda channel that tries to moonlight as a reputable news agency. We who do study history know that the Middle East has always been rife with sectarianism and violence based on absurdly strict fabricated interpretations of religious jargon as well as cultural norms. Couple that with institutional corruption and oligarch establishments or dictatorships...and voila, there is the Middle East described in a paragraph.

This Thread was about the remembrance of those who lost their lives on that day. it wasn't a debate about whether we attacked the wrong country or not or what country was should have attacked instead but it was out of respect for those who lost their lives on this day. It's not meant to be political

I signed up for the Army on Nov. 9th 2001...and while I am proud to say I stood up for you're right to say this...I also stood up for my right to say you are a complete moron.

Nothing against the military here. Obviously there were some seriously evil people you guys were fighting. PM if you are interested in my take.

I admit I kind of acted out of impulse. I agree that this was not the right thread to bring up politics.
