OT: PJ Fleck signs 7 year extension with Minnesota

I mean, "anything real at a legit program" is monopolized by less than a handful of coaches at an equal number of college football programs. Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Brian Kelly, Ryan Day (or whoever the coach at Ohio State may be at any time), and Lincoln Riley (or whoever the coach is at Oklahoma...until they join the SEC however)...anyone else? I don't believe so. Ed Orgeron won a national title at LSU two seasons ago in one of the greatest seasons in the history of the sport (that LSU team was out of control record breaking) and he is gone within two seasons removed.

Gary Patterson has a statue built on campus, is considered one of the best coaches in CFB and a few down seasons has him leaving mid-season.

No one is safe, brother from the statement I have bolded.

PJ Fleck has an undefeated regular season, Top 25 finish for a program in the MAC. He had Minnesota finish the season in the Top 10 just one and a half seaons ago and has them winning bowl games every year. People here jerk Matt Campbell off, but he and Fleck are basically the same dude, except Fleck has won his conference before. People on this forum trash Mario Cristobal, but you'd be hard pressed to find many coaches that have won their conference multiple times at multiple schools, finished in the Top 5 nationally, recruits at his level, has won conference coach of the year multiple times...nevermind that resume that would actually consider coaching here.

Even your comparison point...James Franklin...he, the fans of Pedo State, and the media are already talking about him getting out of that hellhole ASAP. He's finished in the Top 10 3 times...he literally had this team in the Top 5 three weeks ago and things only went off the rails when his QB got injured (was going to beat Iowa in that game, for sure)...like, how many coaches in CFB are better than James Franklin? idk the answer, but its not many...and I don't even particularly like him.

The reality is...there are not many Saban's, Swinney's, Brian Kelly, OSU Coach, OU coach out there at programs that can cultivate that kind of winning. The rest of CFB is basically on hamster wheel waiting for their turn at a nice NY6 game. Fleck and Minnesota included. Everyone has a ceiling. For some, its 10-2, for others its like 9-3 (see Iowa State, Iowa), and others its like 8-4...but the notion that most of these schools can do better is wild, to me. Look at Nebraska after thinking they were too good for Bo Pelini and his 9-3 seasons?

Sorry, a bit of a rant...but I think some perspective is lost in these discussions.
 
Minn 32-22 since 2017 with 1 11-2 season. Take that out they are 21-20. I don’t know if that’s worth another 7 years before they see what happens at the end of this season.

Btw Miami 36-23 since 2017 with 1 10-3 season. Take that out we are 26-20.

And He let Trey Lance get out of the State...tried Lance for a DB after Lance explicitly said He wanted to play QB.

Maybe some program (USC, PSU) reached out to speak with him.

He must really love Minn though because he has made it extremely difficult for another program to offer him again. If he has a couple of 10 win seasons nearly every program in the country will want him. The way he talks though, he never plans on leaving.

Take out all of his wins at Minnesota and he's 0-22

And the 4 years before Fleck Minnesota was 31-21 under 2 different coaches. So it's not like he turned the program around. The year before he took over Minnesota they went 9-4. PJs first year in Minnesota he went 5-7. He may be a good coach but he's waaaaaay overrated and a salesman.

He was 30-22 at Western Michigan and again had 1 13-1 season. He has a great season to pad his stats. Removing the anomaly shows what an average season will look like which is a 6-6 7-6 coach. The same can be said with Miami besides the 1 ten-win season has been an 8-4 team.

Jerry Kill had that program going in the right direction and had to step down due to health issues. Tracy Claeys also had a great year (9-4) and got fired for political reasons.

Fleck is a total fraud. Slightly better version of Al Golden.
