OT: OSU AD calls out Gundy for mediocre recruiting

Ok State doesn't really play many teams that recruit above their tier, so their recruiting isn't generally a big deal on a week to week basis. Their OC schedule is usually made up of horrible recruiting teams. And most of the Big XII recruits at about the same tier, outside of OU and Texas at the top, and a few teams like Kansas at the bottom. But everybody else's class is largely interchangeable.

Wisconsin generally has the same type of makeup. They don't recruit particularly well, but neither do most of the teams they play. They do an amazing job of beating everybody that recruits at their level or below (90% of their schedule), they generally lose to teams that out recruit them, but because there aren't many of those teams on their schedule, that coaching job is good for 10+ wins a year. And Wisconsin fans are happy.

But Wisconsin is fortunate that, unlike Okie State, those teams that usually out recruit them and so beat them when they do play, aren't Wisconsin's yearly rival. There isn't a special name for the game. And Wisconsin doesn't really need to beat them to play for the conference championship. Whereas for Oklahoma State, they can't really get to where they want to go if they don't elevate recruiting some. They aren't even going to be able to luck into it like Wisconsin can. If you're that billionaire writing those checks, knowing you have this ceiling you will never break through, is a tough pill to swallow.

Have u seen his OSU teams?

How many times has UM given up 60 points? Gundy wouldn't have come in and thrown the D aside when he would be able to get top talent here. At OSU he does what they all do over there. It's an arms race.

Again, if Coach No D didn't give up 60, I don't believe a Gundy team would.

If you're cool with having a 9 or 10 win ceiling and just conceding every good recruit in the area to your rivals then you should be perfectly happy with Gundy's recruiting. If you ever want to actually make a playoff push and/or actually beat Oklahoma occasionally, then his recruiting isn't cutting it. Yes, Stillwater is a dump. So is Norman. So is Lincoln. So is Tuscaloosa. So is Columbus. So is Gainesville. Most colleges aren't in big, metro areas. They're usually in the middle of nowhere.

Lincoln is probably the least schitty on that list but I'll be damned if you didn't just name 5 armpits.
