I lived in Brevard for a bit myself. Bit too slow for my liking, but it sure is gorgeous down there!
Lived in Cocoa Beach decades ago. It's cold, dark and rainy right now in Maryland, but not sure I would want to go back to Brevard. Maybe I'd like it more now. Dunno.

My folks lived on Minuteman Causeway, just past the high school. I was out in Viera/Rockledge area. The nature down there is spectacular, but the city areas themselves? Meh.

My neighbor from the Space Coast said he rarely goes home because the people over there have become Cult Members and uncompromising racist. IMO the only places that offer a lot of Social and Entertainment options are Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. Everywhere else only have pockets of quality entertainment only worth a one night stay.

Almost correct. I grew up in the panhandle and now live in Jax. Between Jax and Tallahassee is more like lower Georgia. West of Tallahassee, where I grew up, is definitely more like Alabama. Either way, both areas suck. Lol
I concur fam, my mom's mom's side of my family is from Greenville, 40 miles east of Tally. That **** is South South Georgia, literally no difference. My dad's dad is from SW Bama, so naturally I have a lot of family in and around Pensacola. That **** is South Southeast Alabama, literally no difference...

I don't like the nature. Alligators, snakes, mosquitos.....very bland scenery. Mangrove swamp. There is a lot of water for fishing...grant you that. Salt water trout in bays and rivers, ocean and surf fishing, and great bass fishing out to the west in St. John's River.

Flat, boring Florida nature is nothing compared to the spectacular mountains of western United States....I could not believe how beautiful Rockies were my first time in Colorado...And then the mountains and desert of Utah and Arizona were unbelievable...that was my reaction as someone who grew up in the flat Eastern U.S. until early adulthood.

Never been a boater nor did I ever spend a lot of time on the beach so nature of Florida to me is unimpressive.

I was in the first graduating class of CBHS so I know Minuteman Causeway....I remember when it was a narrow dirt road and people would drive out to use it as a dump. That was early '60's. CBHS was finished in '64.

I remember that they built a golf course, maybe it was a country club, and some new homes out there. I suspect a lot of that had to be at least partially filled-in land.

I don't think about it much, but I don't think I've ever lost my dislike for that area.

I remember school officials used to set up road blocks on Minuteman Causeway to stop the cars of students driving away from school to see if they had a legitimate reason to leave school or were skipping. The overwhelming majority were skipping.

I only skipped once. A bunch of guys got the idea to use the excuse to attend a church service and then go to Fat Boy's BBQ. So a bunch of us went into the school's office and said we had to go to the Catholic Church for St. Blaze's Day, I think they called it. The assistant principal was suspicious....he told the secretary to check the personal folder of every single one of us to see if we were really Catholic. Many of us weren't. We didn't wait around to be checked. We all just got out of that office and went to the parking lot and piled into cars. We headed to the Catholic church and I went in like everybody else. The whole bunch-- maybe 8 or so, sat together off to the side. Finally, the priest came out and said all the HS students should come forward, we would be taken first, so we could get back to school. I thought it would be too obvious if I just hung back so I got next to one of the Catholic kids to ask him what to do. All of us, non-Catholics included, went up and knelt down. The priest came down the line with two candles and blessed everyone of us. I whispered to the Catholic kid next to me asking if I had to say anything to the priest. He said, "No."

We then got outta there quick and had some great BBQ at Fat Boy's.

One of my best memories of Cocoa Beach.

I've been living in Panama City Beach nearly my whole life. If you stick to the coast you're fine, but if you get about 5 miles in the banjos start playing.

I could not agree more, my man. I previously worked in Monticello, Greenville, and Madison, when I first got out of college. I honestly can't tell the difference between those Florida city's and city's in lower Georgia, such as Cairo, Tifton, Bainbridge, Thomasville, etc... They all talk, look, act, and even cook the same . Lol

LOL Fantastic story. Thanks for sharing.

I'm actually the opposite re the nature. I didn't grew up in FL; in fact, I was an Army brat, so I lived all over the place. Nothing makes me more content than the tropics. Give me a pile of sand in the middle of some clear blue waters, a palm tree and some Bob Marley and I'm set! The nature down in FL fits me to a tee. I love all the wildlife too. But I can definitely appreciate how someone who was raised in FL would be blown away at the landscape elsewhere. Our country is spectacular in so many regions, each that are so unique and different.

Bruh tell me about it. I don't know how you did it, working in Madison & Jefferson County after college. I prolly woulda blew my brains out lol jk. My mom was born in Monticello. My grandpa was from Asheville, Fl/Quitman, Ga.(their property was literally on the state line). Ain't **** there just like it ain't **** in Greenville. I grew up going up there a lot. I'll tell you like this, my granny's youngest sister never left Greenville so I'd visit her and my other family that's up there a lot when I was in college. In 4.5 years of undergrad plus 3 years of living in Tally in between and after graduating, I never stayed overnight in Greenville or Monticello. I'd hang out with my folks till until 2am, get my *** on dark *** Hwy. 90 and go home to some sort of civilization....

Crazy stuff, my man. Lol. It sounds to familiar. You mentioned Highway 90. My grandfather's address is still highway 90 in Sneads Fl. I can't get away from that **** road. I practically grew up on that road in Sneads, Fl. I moved to Tally and stayed on that road (Tennessee street). I moved to Jax and my first place was off of Beach Blvd, which is highway 90. 3 different cities, same **** street. Lol

Oh you're from Sneads? I had a couple cousins locked up in Sneads, went to visit them. Nothing there but 90 & the prison. I'm sooooo glad my grandparents left there. It was either gonna be Cincinnati or Dade. They picked Dade and the rest is history....
