OT: NFL Draft

Anybody know why the Fins broke with the time-honored tradition of drafting some Penn State/Notre Lame/Croc bust in the first round?

Marquise "Hollywood" Brown! A Nade boy going to my Ravens.

Perfect pickup for our Offense, he & Lamar will be a great pair. Marquise has Tyreek Hill type speed, the exact kinda WR we need.

Best rookie WR, IMO. Wanted my Raiders to grab him but he will fit perfectly with LJ8 and that offense. That whole locker room really. He will fit right in.

Burns brother seems like a potential leach the man looked like he wanted to go on stage with the man.

He was drafted already. He was the 1 that dimed on auburn paying for players. Played against him in high school at Dillard...Stanley Mcglover.

They did not need to drag it out that long. It was from 2016 when he was in high school... cmon espn. Way to embarrass a kid on draft night who seemed regretful and learned from the incident

I was literally ****ed off. That b*tch trey wingo couldnt wait to get to talking about it...they didnt even show the guys name, highlights , nothing..they spent 10 mins talking about a fight from when he was in high school. That was downright disgusting...because it was not the reason he fell at all.

If I was a GM i would have drafted him late because he fought like a straight *****.

As a Ravens fan...didnt like it. Thought they would go with a different(bigger) WR. Hope I am wrong.
I understand the line of thinking but the NFL has evolved, bigger WR's aren't as valuable as the smaller speedsters who can create space & run quick routes.

Look at who the top WR's are in the league, Antonio Brown, OBJ, Tyreek Hill, Brandin Cooks, Juju Smith-Schuster etc, even the Pats with Edleman & Dorsett, or guys like TY Hilton & Doug Baldwin.

Because it's become a pass heavy league the premium is more on guys that can take the top off the field & get open quick rather than the days of old where you had to have a prototype 6'4 230lbs big physical WR.

Plus, the WR's all got dragged down in the 1st because teams didn't see them as worth 1st round picks, aside from Marquise & N'Keal Harry almost all of the WR's in this draft got graded down because you can get value out of picking them in rounds 2-4 rather than the high risk of being a 1st rounder.

DK Metcalf is a physical specimen, but he can't catch a cold in the winter time with a wet suit on. AJ Brown is solid but not worth a 1st, he's a 2nd-3rd player. Hakeem Butler is a big 6'6 guy that tested well, but his film shows extremely inconsistent hands & fairly limited route runner. Parris Campbell is a pure speed demon but wasn't a 1st round grade, he's a kid you can steal in the 2nd or the 3rd, obviously we don't have a 2nd but could still move up if we decided to.

Point being, out of all the WR's available there were only 2 possibly 3 with 1st round grades that checked all the boxes & Marquise is a perfect fit for the Ravens Offense because he's a speedster in the same vein as Tyreek Hill/TY Hilton, runs precise crisp routes, gets in & out of his breaks with suddenness & can take a 5yd quick slant to the house for a 60yd TD.

I hear what you are saying but the WRs you mentioned run a totally different O scheme. They spread it out. Baltimore is going to be running more than any team next season....I dont see Brown's blocking help much. And I agree WRs got down graded. So take OL in 1st and WR later.

Like I said....hope Brown proves me wrong.

Montez Sweat was a 3-star Juco player coming out of HS & was actually a TE he was converted to DE & ended up at Miss St.

Jonathan Abram was also a 3-star player coming out of HS that initially signed with Richt at UGA before going Juco & wound up at Miss St.

Noah Fant was a 3-star DE coming out of HS in Nebraska before being converted into a TE at Iowa.

TJ Hockenson was a 3-star TE ranked 66th nationally amongst TE'a in his class coming out of HS in Iowa.

The only elite player drafted from either school was Jeffrey Simmons who was a 5-star in HS.

So is it our player development, El?

If you are the Bucs, who would you take at the top of the 2nd round? I’m thinking one of the ole miss receivers. I prefer Aj brown over metcalf but he’s good too

Panthers were just in the Superbowl. Dolphins haven't been in a superbowl since when. I was thinking when was the last time Miami played in the afc championship game. Since 2000 ... You've been in the playoffs 4 total times. In that same time frame Baltimore has made it 11 times with 2 superbowl appearances and 2 wins. Panthers have made it 7 times with 2 superbowl appearances.
And lost them both.

We've also never had back to back winning seasons. So yeah, floundering.

Also we've just drafted a Seminole. FFS.

Love the Phins taking Wilkins in the first, kid looked fired up and ready to go. Need to hopefully address the OL in the second and third.
