I'm fully aware this is a CFB message board but considering the current state of affairs, this event may have an impact on attendance to other major sporting events.

This All Star race has been in Charlotte since the mid 80's. The move to Bristol was announced 4 weeks ago due to the high number of Covid cases in the Charlotte area. Since that time, the number of cases in the Bristol and surrounding areas have seen a dramatic increase but the race will go on as scheduled. The grandstands hold 150K and they are allowing 30K to attend. As of this morning, they have not sold out.

The track management team has taken every precaution imaginable working with local and state health officials to try and insure a safe environment for the fans. Most of the locals are not happy even though the city, county, and local businesses benefit tremendously from the race/s. For some perspective, just the 30K (if they sell out) is more than the population of the city of Bristol, TN - about 27K.

I realize Nascar is not nearly as popular as CFB, but the results of this event may have an impact on decisions about fan attendance at other major events.

They havent sold out 30k seats in NC? Good indicator of what will happen in november.

They are having an all star race on Wednesday night verses the weekend and they are worried about attendance? #hillbilleshavetoworktoo

I don't follow Nascar much, but they've moved the races around to different days since the start of this pandemic. Attendance was zero at first and they started to allow fans - IIRC about 5K the first time - as time went on.

nascar has ****ed of most of their fan base by joining forces with the biggest hoax perpetrated on them by Bubba. Bubba did more damage to Nascar than anyone. Tearing down good people by using the racist hammer with a hoax to get attention to himself and then doubling down on his actions. nascar should have banned him. bubba imputed good every day people. Nascar will never be the same after hoax bubba perpetrated.

If there are no fans in the stands, I guess it doesn't matter what day the race is on. If they get over 25k to show in the middle of the week, I'd say that would be pretty good.

I’m a NASCAR fan. Brisyol Is a terrible place for the All Star race. it and Loudon are my least favorite tracks. I guess they were looking for the smallest venue that wasn’t too far away.

What?

Bristol is a huge track. I've watched races from the infield, it has 150,000 seats.

Bristol and Charlotte are both owned by Bruton Smith, and Bristol was the closest Speedway Motorsports track to Charlotte. I'm sure Bruton thought he had come up with some genius master stroke that was going to work out great for him, but it's a mid-week race in a tiny town, and Covid spread is on the upswing again. ****, even Trump's last rally was an attendance dud.

I'm not sure why anyone thought this was going to work out well, that 30,000 people were just going to go out in the middle of the week and in the middle of Covid for a non-Cup-points race.

I think this is a huge event for many reasons. All sports leagues will have their eye on this event. If a crowd of 30k fills the stands and nothing much comes of this, I think there will be a strong push for fall sports. We'll see.

Seriously. Who give a F' about some good ol' boy redneck racist sport?? After all, the only reasons why these good ol' boys and good ol' girls attend this FAUX PAS sport thing, is to GET DRUNK and watch for a MAJOR racing accident. With a possibility of some redneck driver DYING and what not.

Again, I would point out...even if they "sell out" there will be 1 person for every 5 seats. Not quite sure how that turns into "strong push for fall sports".

What a completely ignorant and asinine thing to say. Dude, you really need to check your priorities in life.

Hamelin baby!!!!!
Resident board cry baby needs a corn dog and a Budweiser and go catch his undersized snook....
For all the attendance nonsense, NASCAR was the first sport back with great ratings. I feel like the fams in attendance thing is more about natural progression....
