OT: Memphis vs. Navy/South Alabama vs. Georgia Southern

Billy Napier
Hugh Freeze
Tom Herman
Jeff Traylor
Jay Norvell
Of these 5, who would be your #1?

And would it be safe to assume that this choice would check off some /most of the boxes of what's missing with the previous (and current) coaching failures?

Recruiting, Xs and Os, Staff Hirings Disciplinarian, etc.?

Billy Napier, Hugh Freeze or Tom Herman.

I think Napier would be the best in terms of long term program building, he built that ULL program into a competitive winning team. They had only had 2 9 win seasons in their entire program history & the last one was in 1993 before he got there. He also came up in the Clemson program under Terry Bowden & was there at the beginning of the Dabo era, he also was at Bama as Saban’s WR’s coach & recruited Calvin Ridley, Jerry Jeudy, Trevon Diggs & a bunch others. He’s a smart young guy that is noted for having a great attention to detail & learned under Dabo & Saban & has built a rep as a highly respected coach that is the next young potential star on the coaching scene.

He would also fix our run game because he does a good job recruiting OL’s & his offense is predicated on a power run scheme that takes the air out of the ball & wares the Defense down.

Freeze imo would be a great pick as well as a quick turn around coach, he’d have the offense up & running from the day he set foot on campus & would no doubt find us a big time QB either in the Portal or would recruit one. Obviously he can recruit too lol, but I think he’d a be a great fit here to get us back on track in the short term, i don’t think he’d stay for longer than 2 seasons though, as soon as a SEC vacancy opened up I think he’d be outta here. But I would still take him.

Herman would be an upgrade from Manny clearly & I think we’d win the Coastal with him, he’d definitely have our QB play at a high level & the offense would be good, but our Defense might suck under Herman lol. He has probably the most question marks about his ability to inspire his team & get them to play above their means, for as talented as Texas was they tended to play down to their competition sometimes under his tenure, but they also got up for big games & showed out in Bowl games. He’s a good coach, another offensive x’s & o’s guy that would have us right in the passing game, but again, our Defense would be contingent upon him finding the right DC.

I think any one of the 3 would be a good replacement for Diaz, I like Napier & Freeze a little more than Herman but would be good with Herman still.

Brother, as usual, you're on point with everything. Can't wait to get a new coach and hear your recruiting scoops again. Good info as always

Thanks for the detail, appreciate the knowledge.

The more I see of and hear about Billy Napier, the more I like the idea. From his coaching background and the product he puts on the field, I'd like him to be considered (I don't trust nor have an iota of faith in the current AD - I refuse to say the name - to make a proper hire. He has to GTFOH).

Even the game this week vs App St. was impressive. They handled them like you'd expect a (well coached) UM team would have. I've enjoyed watching ULL whenever the opportunity arises.

Mentioned this in another thread before kickoff but watching this Navy team only reiterates what a corch Gus Malzahn has become.

Wasn’t Herman kissing and hugging his players?? No more soft puzzies for me.

No.

Jay is an old school coach from back in the early Barry Alvarez days at Wisconsin in the early 90’s, then was with Dan McCarney at ISU, then to the NFL with Jim Mora SR with the Colts, then to the Raiders with Bill Callahan, then followed Callahan to Nebraska, then wound up with Stoops at Oklahoma for 7 years & was with Charlie Strong for a year at Texas before Strong got fired, then finally after having to wait for a long got the HC job at Nevada & has them playing at a high level with their QB Carson Strong who’s gonna be a 1st round draft pick.

He’s an older coach I think 56 or 57, but he’s kinda like the less charismatic version of Herm Edwards lol

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!! 😂

One of your best posts. Straight details. No dramatics. Fantastic.

Me personally im high on Napier, Freeze, Herman.

Lots clown Herman but i think he would do better here than TX.

I think he's a good coach who should have done better at the DC position...Todd Orlando was no bueno and he eventually replaced him with a better DC in Chris Ash, but it was too little, too late.
Having said all of this, as one who graduated from UofMaryland, I am still befuddled as to how he lost twice to the Terps.

Agree but the issue with Napier from what I’ve reas on tiger droppings is that he has his sights set on a bama/Clemson job down the road. I think our next coach has to be here more than 3-4 years (assuming he’s good)

Neither Bama or Clemson’s job will be available within the next 4 years...

And when either one does come open I’m certain their AD’s won’t have Napier as their first choice, considering those programs can basically get whoever they want.
