OT: Lincoln Riley Offense: Dan Orlovsky's View

I agree that OU and Riley kill it from an imagination standpoint but theses are not true PROgression offense that when the defense disguise coverages to fool the quarterback into the wrong read ends in turnovers or the QB tucking and running.

Yep. The core of the offense is that old leach air raid. Riley has added a lot to that system and made that shît even more lethal. And riley will run the ball too. Leach just throws the ball too much for me.
Riley has been able to combine the full throttle Leach approach with a power running game and a bruising offensive line. Thats why he has the best offense in the country

Oklahoma will pay him up to 10 million a year to stay, plus bring him in on some of those fracking deals their booster base is privy to. He ain't going anywhere.

His mentor and the guy who gave him his first shot as an OC is his current DLine coach. They know theres no real reason to go to the pros except for money and vanity. The defensive coaching and athleticism at the NFL level is elite and his offense ain't gonna fly there.

Hurts has the game experience and the smarts to make this system work. And Riley will let him loose to run, as evidenced last night.

Jerry Jones gonna send Lincoln Riley a blank check next off-season.
I think so as well, unless Garrett finally does something. I'm excited to watch Kellen Moore as the offensive coordinator though. He was probably the smartest football player I've ever seen.

He’s taken Leachs system and made his own flavor. I mean if you’re not updating or reinventing yourself in today’s football you’ll get left behind.

I.E Mark Richt.
True indeed, really depressing when u watch these guys then u see we are still trying to get out of the mud.

I admit I was surprised Riley wanted him and didnt see the fit, but this dude was cooking up an offense for Hurts the entire time.

That guy could get Malik to 11 wins. And no I’m not picking on Malik just saying

Calm down. Hurts is more athletic than Malik with significantly better arm talent, even though Jalen doesn't have eye popping talent in that area. Malik was miserably inaccurate, Hurts just wasn't a fit for what Bama wanted to run. That said, Jalen also just lit up Houston a team that has NEVER played defense on a consistent basis. Not shocking. He will feast in the Big XII, because no one in that conference even bothers to play defense.

It was more of a joke but I’m with you

OUs offense has been impressive to watch these last couple years. Its literally a nightmare for any well coached LB cause you have the throw out everything you've learned about reading the OL since pop Warner.

Yup but he'd probably be wise to not take it. Aside from having to deal with Jerry it seems like offensive "geniuses" always eventually get caught up with by NFL defensive minds and salary cap limitations. As soon as your QB has to get paid then a lot of "gurus" tend to be exposed too.

Watch what happens with Sean McVay after Goff gets a new deal.
NFL defensive minds and the fact that there are pro defenders on the other side of the ball. Besides the fact their athleticism shuts down a lot of what works in college, they can game plan and practice full time.

A lot of these college offences work because they're run against guys who have limits on how much they can practice each week.

Exactly. Aside from career legacy aspirations it basically becomes a tradeoff of do you want to deal with recruiting/babysitting vs do you want to deal with the salary cap and having less control over pro players than you do with teenagers.

I'm pretty sure Super Bowl winners like Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh probably make less than a handful of current college coaches.
It's why Saban failed in the NFL.

He couldn't hold a scholarship over the head of a player. Millionaires wanted nothing to do with his Napoleon complex.

The way I look at it why move to the nfl these days?
Unless you've aspired and dreamed to be a coach in the NFL being a successful ncaa coach is just as lucrative.

Terrific offense scheme, but unlikely to win a national championship. Pace also puts the defense on the field too long & will be shut down by physical teams with athletes - ie Bama, UGA, Clemson.

If you see that wedding picture and how he looked when he was younger it only makes sense he spent all his time studying football

Since they dont have to pay players, tv deals, etc.. the college coach salaries have exploded last few years.. Only reason to go to nfl is to try to climb that mountain..

The only reason for a coach to go to the nfl is if they totally hate recruiting

Definitely part of the reason. Authoritarian d!ckheads can succeed in the NFL but if their only resume is college success then you'll lose a pro locker room beyond fast.

I don't think that would necessarily be the case with Riley but I do think the shelf life on offensive innovation equaling prolonged success in the modern NFL is just too short. Then again maybe the dude can adapt but if I'm him I'm just trying to do something substantial in college first.

I don’t know how smart Moore is, but he went from 3rd string NFL QB to NFL OC in record time. I do know that.
