OT Kendall Briles

In my opinion, yes. Look at these numbers, all S/P+ ratings so they adjust for competition:

Houston
Pre-Briles 2017: 57th
Briles 2018: 20th

FSU

Pre-Briles 2018: 97th
Briles 2019: 49th

ESPN took over s/p+ so can't see the Arky numbers, but I bet they're great. He's gone into some pretty ****** situations and improved those ****** offenses over night.
Thanks. I didn’t mean to come off like I was slighting Briles. Just not sure what we should expect now that we’re spending big bucks. I think he’s pretty legit.

His time at FSU might be the most telling

Talk about coming into an absolute train wreck of a situation but still seemed to make it work somewhat

2019 Arkansas Offense SP+: 105th
2020 Arkansas Offense SP+: 54th
2021 Arkansas Offense SP+: 29th

They hired Kendal Briles before the 2020 season.

Brady kinda scares me. He has a 1 year sample size and then was meh in the NFL. Seems a bit risky. Could have been a lightening in a bottle situation.
To be fair, who wouldn't be "meh" in Carolina with a scrub in Sam Darnold, a washed up Cam Newton, a lousy OL and an injury prone star RB? It's not like he had a ton to work with there.

Briles is making $1 million at Arkansas. We should be able to get him

True. But the same argument can be made in reverse: who wouldn't have killed it at LSU with generational talent on offense? QB Joe Burrow, QB Clyde-Edwards, WRs: Justin Jefferson, Ja'marr Chase, Terrace Marshall, and a few nfl guys on the oline.

He's not gonna have that talent here. I think it'd be a good hire btw, I just think it's a little risky. Briles/Mullen/etc. are much more proven with much larger sample sizes.

yep.

And Briles just has a college offense. It’s easy to learn. Good mix of tempo, spread, and spacing.

People love to hate on his time at FSU.

In 2018 they were 97th in S&P+ in offense.

In 2019, with one offseason and no real talent infusion, he got them to 49th in offense.

That’s a miracle improvement.

wasn't a fan at first admittedly not knowing his past as well and the context.

i'm all on board, would rather have this dude than brady as he's proven

It’s crazy when you put his stuff in context.

He was at FAU and Houston. Under offensive minded head coaches. That were still there after him. Including the gawd Kiffin.

Both schools had at least a 20 point improvement in offensive S&P+ rankings from where they were the year before him.

And both schools had a 20 point drop in rankings AFTER he left, even while still being led by offensive coaches. And Houston’s drop was way worse than that.

I wouldn't be ****ed if its Briles. But with the money available for top tier coordinators, it screams "it'll be a former HC."

There's a LOT of interest in the position. Already have a QB in TVD, with Garcia loaded in the chamber. Huge budget to work with. Elite recruiting HC leading things. Skill players will NEVER be an issue. If Mirabal fixes the O-line, the next OC is likely headed for a HC position.

So lets go BIG.

Mario is Cuban Art Briles with regards to how he carries himself. They’re scary people. Some of the Briles stores from when he was coaching HS are legendary intimidating. Kendall grew up with that and would be great fit here. We need legitimate OL to have real success, first.

You guys have a short memory. He was awful at FSU. Do you remember the 2019 Rousseau 4 sack game? That offense was awful. I know Taggart was a mess to begin with, but they were constantly disorganized. And they were last in penalties that season. No thanks.

Porque? Just a gut feeling?
Not Mario’s style of coordinator...

Plus Kendal is a Texas guy, Arkansas is the perfect gig for him to stay at until he gets a HC opportunity, he just had to rebuild his reputation after the FSU debacle, I doubt he’d wanna take another step back to the ACC & again.
