OT: John Skipper Resigns

That Paine tweet is some cowardly ****. "We've got dirt, but we won't post it. But trust us, it's real dirty. But we can't talk about it. So, you can't, you know, verify it in any way."

Naw man. true pundit.com is legit. They have inside info on levels that others simply do not.

I completely trust that tweet.

Who at that level and is supposedly universally beloved signs a new deal a month ago and then abruptly resigns over a substance abuse issue? No leave of absence, no temporary hiatus, nothing but a flat out and immediate resignation and one that Disney/Bob Iger thought was appropriate.

When you put this up to your nosy it don't smella so rosy. Here's to every social justice warrior and company man/woman that immediately jumped to extol the virtues of one of their own yesterday being put in an awkward situation real soon.

Especially rich was how the timing of this story broke yesterday. It was literally as Lebatard and his ilk were pretty much criticizing sCam Newton for defending Jerry Richardson under the guise of "that's not the guy I know personally....".

Or maybe he's a guy who realized he had a problem and decided to get help?

Or maybe he realized that being a drunk/drug addict while also being the president of ESPN President and Co-Chairman of Disney Media in the middle of a massive acquisition with FOX wasn't a good idea.

Literally no one with any insider info at ESPN is saying this anything other than an addiction problem.

As far as the ESPN "insiders"- Miller and Ourand's current access was probably largely already controlled/facilitated by Skipper. Richard Deitsch said yesterday that skepticism regarding the resignation is justified. As far as the Fox acquisition, Skipper would've only managed the result of that- not the actual acquisition process.

Sure, this may be one big outlier a resignation in a sea of others that are more nefarious but the optics are suspect at best- especially the part about Disney/Iger deeming his immediate disappearance appropriate and no stories about them trying to get him to stay (a guy they just gave a new deal to) being leaked to any outlets.

company has gone downhill since he took over creating a left wing political statement agenda tuning lots of viewers off. might be the best thing for the company's sake but obviously wish it wasn't under these circumstances and wish him the best in his recovery.

ESPN's ratings decline is right in line with the percentage of cord cutters. ****y rednecks who don't like black people hosting Sportscenter aren't hurting ESPN's bottom line, it's the huge NFL contract and the percentage of cable fees they were getting.

The incessant Tebow coverage and "embrace debate" did more harm to ESPN than anything kneeling NFL players ever did.

not disagreeing but who signed off on that big MNF contract?

That's my dream job. Has been for a long time. Man what I'd do for an opportunity like that one day!

George Bodenheimer, deal was signed in 2011 and Skipper wasn't President until 2012.

Plus a $15B probably goes over the head of ESPN regardless, I'm sure every executive from Disney down had to sign off on that one.
