That would be great if we could hold out but seeing Ben Simmons, Jamal Murray, and Siakam get maxes early on, or even Levert's deal, makes me think we'll do the same - especially after Bam's ASG nod. Although, the stakes are different with our team and Toronto pursuing Giannis in 2021. Hope you're right. Do you think we can afford to pay Bam, Nunn, Robinson, and a max slot (Oladipo, Giannis, Beal S&T) in 2021? Seems like something would have to give
Need more Heat talk. Looks like we'll see Iggy tonight
The Murray extension was a huge mistake. Siakam and Simmons extensions didn't really alter those teams' plans. When the opportunitt cost is low it's good to breed goodwill with the extension. I wish Siakam got the full 5 year one like Towns with no player option.
Difference with Bam is the stakes like you said. If he's a team guy he'll be patient and wait for the wink/nod max after 2021 FA business is done.
I'm not a CBA expert but Albert Nahmad is one of the best and he's a Heat fan. Heat have $40M committed to Butler and Herro for 2021 with cap holds for the 3 guys you mentioned. That leaves approximately $50M in space which is room for a max (30% or even 35% like PG) and another key rotation piece, plus exceptions like MLE and BAE. Robinson and Nunn will be RFAs with tiny cap holds and even if Nunn was extended it would be a value contract like Josh Richardson got because that's the max they can get.
The guy who probably gets left out is Derrick Jones because he's a 2020 UFA. But if the Heat are super high on him they can bet on his value as either a core piece or a moveable asset.
