OT: Hurricane warning

I remember last year when they said Michael was gonna be a 1, then a 2... 18 hours later basically a cat 5 slammed into florida

Hurricane matthew, then hurricane irma, then hurricane michael, now this ****???

I love florida brahs but this is getting out of hand.. this thing was projected to be a 2 yesterday and now they're calling for a 4

it's gonna be a borderline 5 mark my fcking words.

Price of living in Paradise. We are after-all Hurricanes so relax, prepare, pray and watch a copy old NC wins. That said, I get you. This one gets worse with each update. Been here my whole life and there is a reason they use to only have ladies names--no telling where the going or what the heck they will do when they get there. Back in 60's there was one named Betsy. I was kid with plays to go fishing they next day because the storm was way east of north FL and heading away when I went to sleep. Woke up in the morning and it had looped and was heading south eventually west to South FL hit us went though Gulf, smacked the crap out of LA and then up into Ohio Valley and raised havoc.

Mean time, I got up that morning and went bass fishing despite the frigging storm. The dark nasty stormy weather must have stirred up the fish. I caught a 9 lb large-mouth bass from the shore of canal up in Davie. I was cleaning up tree limbs for a week after that storm and we loss power for about the same time, but that frigging fish still hangs on my trophy wall. Hurricanes were fun back then, although I must admit that as an adult they seemed to be nothing like I remember as a kid. May the Good Lord protect all those in the path of Dorian. If has the feel of a nasty mess.

I may be wrong, but normally these things turn North as they approach the coast, right?
Unless there’s a high pressure blocking it

Betsy passed 80 miles east of Miami in 1965. I remembered it well!

It will all depend on the High located in the upper Atlantic, and whether or not that H moves south and how far. The models (and there are many) whether the European, the GFS or others are all based/predicated on a probabilistic/stochastic set of multiple equations that get their input from a set of parameters that include among others historical information, the hurricane plane (53d WRS hurricane hunters operate ten Lockheed WC-130J aircraft that travels to the eye of the storm & collects additional information) and other atmospheric, sea temperature measures, etc. factors. These equations are in turn run through various simulations in order to arrive at an advisory (normally provided to the public at 5 AM, 8 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM, 8 PM, and 11 PM (bold are principal advisories, the others occur as the hurricane gets closer to land); as the hurricane gets even closer, the NHC also makes other simulation runs throughout the night to be ready for the 5 AM advisory).
