OT: Holgorsen leaving WVU

Poetic justice would be Richt to WVU to reunite with Allison.

This is a odd move IMO, reminds me of when Tubberville left TT to Cincy.

No more Will Grier. The bar has been set pretty high at WVU (at least from the perspective of anyone who doesn't bleed blue and yellow), and it seems pretty easy to envision this guy being someone who may rub a few people the wrong way, as well as chafe a bit at having to deal with people that he doesn't like.

A lot like Jimbo leaving FSU, it strikes me that Hologram probably just wants/needs a change of scenery. Wanting out of Morgantown, WV might be the sanest thought he's ever had, actually.

But yes, strictly speaking, leaving WVU for Houston is a step down, without a doubt.

On the other hand, one could make an argument that it's no less impossible to win an NC at Houston than it is at WVU. At Houston he can live in a real city, on the coast, and basically coast to 10 win seasons without breaking a sweat in the AAC. At WVU, he's potentially one or two 5+ loss seasons from getting run out of town on a rail.

Not sure how Holgorson doesn't jump out of this undies at this chance immediately.

Houston:
  • Huge Media Market (on the verge of being the 3rd largest city in the country)
  • Big Oil Bagmen
  • Texas Recruiting base
  • Easier schedule
  • Higher salary, more money for assistants

West Virginia:
  • Tiny college town
  • No big city nearby
  • Gotta travel to recruit anyone decent
  • Alumni money drying up thanks to the current Pres administration
  • Having to face Oklahoma and the rest each year

Houston is paying him more power 5 money which is something wvu didn’t want to do.
Wvu might have neal brown locked up

This is why I hate Blake James.... If you told me a couple of weeks ago Holgerson would leave for the University of Houston a downgrade in conference and all that jazz I would have laughed..

But guess what that UH AD did? He sent out feelers and see what bit!

/I dont care for Holgerson as I think hes a bit washed up but a good hire for UH and nice look it has getting him to leave WVU

I heard he has a house in the Houston area but it's still odd to me. Who voluntarily goes from a P5 HC job to a non P5 HC job? You're basically saying you have no desire to ever win a national championship. I realize it's a long shot at WVU but you at least have a chance if you win the Big 12.

Exactly. His priorities are obviously weird and probably should be a red flag. Unless we get an 8 team playoff sooner rather than later, this guy just rendered whatever future career success he might have as almost irrelevant.

It amazes me how people can relate anything to Blake James.

The balloon market at party City is somehow worse off Because of Blake James

I bet he wanted out of WVU, even if he has to downgrade.

Houston is a sleeping giant. If they can keep most of their local talent around, they could make far more noise than WVU ever could. More moeny combined with tye belief that you can start pulling that talent makes this a wise move.

How are you defining "make more noise"? Unless they eventually join a P5 conference their ceiling will be losing to a 2 loss SEC team in a bowl game after winning their ****** conference.

Houston would be the big 12 first look at expansion and DH knows that. They will eventually be power 5 as the big 12 will eventually add 2 more teams to get to 12
