Some stellar work at halftime by that washed old goat Booch the Chooch. Takes a halftime lead and turns it into a 40 point L.

Hapless mess of a doddering old fool stealing checks from FIU and humiliating himself. He’s been a bigger disaster for FIU than that bridge.

I don't understand how fans can bash someone that assembled the greatest collection of talent on one team ever. Let's look at just some of the facts:

  • Sixteen (16) first round picks.
  • NFL Hall of Famers like Ed Reed, Frank Gore (now 4th in yards gained in NFL history & the most electric RB other than Barry Sanders I had ever seen pre-injury) & Sean Taylor (who was looking like the greatest ever at his position).
  • A group of RBs that included Clinton Portis (2nd rounder & great pro); McGahee (best rushing season ever at Miami and a 1st round pick); Najeh (4th rounder & rumored to better than the others at one time); and they were backed up by the guy fourth on the NFL's all-time yards gained list.
  • His TEs were guys like Shockey & Winslow (both awesome first round talents).
  • The QB has one of the best W-L records in CFB history.
  • We've barely touched on the D but there were multiple 1st rounders there too (Reed, Buchanon & Rumph as DB). LB (DJ Williams & Vilma both 1st rounders). William Joseph at DL. Dan Morgan was the most decorated LB in CFB history.

Butch did all of that under the effects of crippling sanctions. It's likely the best coaching job ever done in CFB. Yes, Saban has an incredible record at Alabama but they've been a powerhouse for decades. He didn't bring them back from the ashes. Butch almost couldn't miss on more than 1-2 evals given how few schollys he had to work with. What he delivered was truly astounding.

He's in football purgatory at FIU. That's a little known (nationally) commuter school without a good brand & facilities. I don't think anyone could make that really work.

If you want to say he's too old now, maybe (but I don't think so). But, to bash someone that created an absolute machine at Miami and assembled the greatest roster of talent ever in CFB is simply ludicrous. If nothing else, I'm grateful to Butch for providing many indelible memories to Canes fans. It was an awesome thing to experience.

No one bashes what Butch accomplished at UM. The haters simply think he should and could have done more, and not left the program on the cusp of a NC, maybe several.

Exactly. Did any of you stop to think that maybe Butch is TRYING to get fired fro FIU so he’ll be available to take over at UM when Manny gets canned?

Chess, not checkers.

No. And, if there was interest, Butch would be easy to buy out.

The Admin made a huge blunder being cheap with Butch. They were still super cheap in those days (and didn't open up the purse strings until the CMR hire).

Also, who here would have said no to $4 million a year and taken $1+ million a year instead? No-one.
