Off-Topic OT: Fort Lauderdale beaches

Coming to Fort Lauderdale from San Antonio Texas for a week with the kids. Any good suggestions on a good family beach? Chair or umbrella rental, restaurants? Any suggestions are appreciated. Go Canes.

Where specifically are you staying? If youre in actual Fort Lauderdale you will be close to basically everything. If youre somewhere else in nearby Broward, it depends.

There is a great section of Haulover Park....

bring sunglasses....


on a more serious note, anywhere along A1A North of Hilton Beach Resort... very tame and kiddo friendly... enjoy

aside from Ft. Lauderdale beach, Lauderdale by the sea is nice too. If you go there check out Aruba Cafe, super good eating right on the beach. There is a pier next door too. Make sure you get their Bimini bread

Then A1A just north of Sunrise Blvd across from Birch State Park is good, more relaxed. Once you get south of Sunrise Blvd, the more south you go toward Las Olas, the more touristy it gets if that’s what youre looking for. Lauderdale-by-the-sea has a nice old beach town vibe just a few minutes north.

Restaurants at the bottom of the hotels (Conrad, W, Ritz, Hilton, etc) are all nice. Just don’t go to Beach Place with your kids and you should have a good time.
 
Fort Lauderdale beach between Oakland Park blvd and Sunrise is simple. There’s just parking spaces and the sand. Once you go south of Sunrise, that’s were a lot of the shops, bars and restaurants are. More to do but also more crowded. Lauderdale by the Sea is just north of where you’re staying. Where Commercial blvd meets the beach. That’s a nice spot. Probably a little more family friendly than the southern part of Fort Lauderdale beach which gets “Spring Break” year round.

If you hit downtown Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas Blvd, east of Andrews Avenue has lots of great spots. West of Andrews is the Himarshee district which is probably more of a college/early 20’s crowd.
 
For authentic Florida beauty I always suggest the sunset walking tour from Sistrunk & Andrews that goes west and ends at the Swap Shop. I do suggest comfortable footwear though as it's such a mesmerizing experience that you won't even realize the actual distance that you've covered

Hollywood Beach. Steer clear of Ft. Lauderdale beach and S. Beach with the kids.
