The minute Johnny Manziel was released, the texts and calls started pouring in. The consensus among front-office executives and scouts: The drafting of Manziel set the Browns back a good two to three years—if not longer. Manziel was, they agreed, the second-worst draft pick in the history of the NFL. That's how much picking him 22nd overall and wasting two years considering him a future franchise quarterback damaged the organization.

The second-worst draft pick of all time. Behind Ryan Leaf. This is what they all said. Their words. And it wasn't just one or two sources who made the comparison. It was four.

I've heard this sentiment before from team officials but not to the extent or with the ferocity that I heard it Friday. There wasn't just an I told you so tone to the remarks. There was, well, disgust.

I think Jamarcus Russel is worst than Manziel
I'll have to agree because he was a number 1 pick but other than that absolute no comparison because how much happened off the field even though Russell had his share of issues. What Johnny did to the organization makes it look worse but then again it is the Browns

jamarcus russell was addicted to cough syrup and doughnuts.

The last 10 QBs drafted by Cleveland have been BUST.. Johnny is no#10

They haven't had a real QB since Berine Kosar 1985.. Im sure thats longer then a few of our posters here. LOL!!!

i don't remember him putting up on Facebook and skipping Saturday walk through to gamble in Vegas. I said he had his own issues but he wasn't on the level of Manziel's

More goofy hyperbole. There's no way a guy picked that low in the 1st round could be anywhere near the top of all-time busts. He's not even in the same stratosphere as Sizzurp Russell.

The question is did e like the " sizzurp " more than the " foodzurp"?

for those that don't know, he has a heroin problem. it will one day be more public. it is what it is. poor kid

Not the biggest bust but biggest douche out of those qbs in a landslide. Just speaks volumes how criminally inept the Browns are that they spent 100k to extensively research who to pick between him and Bridgewater and still ignored that advice

Todd marinovich was picked 22nd and he's considered one of the top 5 all time busts in NFL history and ironically his story is similar to Johnny's

He's nowhere near a top five bust imo. He fell to 22 for a reason , kid had tools but it was no secret he had major issues . I remember talking heads saying only the dumb *** Raiders would've taken that head case in the first round .

Actually Manziel was a far better college player , TM was already off the rails at USC . On the field and off.

If I recall correctly he had something like a 1-1 td /int ratio at USC .

Fun QB to watch in college, but he doesn't have the drive to give the NFL a serious go. Heck, I can't stand the fact that he has talent and an opportunity most would kill for, but doesn't take it seriously. That's me though, it's his life, and he probably took a pay cut with the NFL rather than working for his dad.

I think part of the reason he's seen as 2nd worst pick of all time is that so many people predicted he would be trash. He had every game play/behavioral red flag BEFORE the draft, and Cleveland took him anyways.

All of the other guys were surprising. It was no surprise that Manziel ended up sucking and being a headcase.
