OT: Corch Bornko Morndenhorl

His first couple of years don't worry anyone.

IF, IF he gets some big poly boys on his lines then he will be a threat.

And he does have the staff to get them, I dunno if Vaginira is ready for them though

He won't get enough of them to come to the east coast to make a difference....

I live in Richmond, about an hour from Charlottesville. For a supposedly smart school, I'm perplexed by the hiring of Mendenfall. He brought a bunch of WAC coaches, used to running WAC systems and they have no recruiting ties to the area. Luckily for Corch Mendenfall, he's got a docile cornball fan base that's accustomed to losing.

Has an east coast program ever successfully recruited a significant amount of Pacific Islanders though? I understand the Mormon angle but still seems like a heavy lift if that's even remotely his philosophy.

Only reason he was good at byu was because his players were 25yrs old plus. He had men playing boys that ain't happening at uva.

How many east coast teams have had multiple Pacific Islanders on their corching staph? It's got relatively little to do with the Mormon thing

Think he was referencing the fact that Hawaii has the largest numbers of LDS members in states not bordering Utah:

The law of averages eventually catches up and you have a stud Samoan Left Tackle from Kailua-Kona on the Big Island who is Mormon.

Would love Miami to get a Hawaii pipeline...

The mormons have extensive ties directly to Samoa and Tonga as well. There are tons of poly's in Utah.

I porsted this elsewhere I think it's appropriate here:

I'm worried about Bronco/Anae (Samoan)/Atuaia (Samoan from Kahuku H.S. in Hawaii. If you don't know about this football powerhouse google it) tapping in to the poly pipeline and putting together some monster lines on offense and defense in the next 2-3 seasons.

It only takes a couple of those big boys to make a major difference.

All understood. I just don't know if you get enough of them to make the extra trek all the way across the country to to Virginia- a place that won't even be remotely as culturally similar as the west coast or even Utah. Enough of them to make the difference they have for a program like Utah or even Washington. Sure, if you get a few difference makers then that could make things interesting but for every stud Polynesian in the Pac-42 right now there probably are several on the bench too. I get what you're saying though. I wish we'd start trying to at least grab one or two while we're on those California recruiting trips. I mean it seems like Larranaga is going to eventually grab a kid from Antarctica so Rick could handle making a small inroad in this impressive demographic.

I think Menenhall is a pretty good coach, but a bad fit at UVA.
It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up back in the west coast, especially if one of the Arizona schools or
Cal opens up.
