OT- bud foster to retire after season

They had more attrition than anyone I can remember last year. You're right, the defense was awful, but they lost something insane to injuries, transfers, and kids getting kicked out of school. Don't quote me, but I think it was something like by mid-season they had lost 9 or 10 of the 22 kids on the 2 deep they had in the spring/summer. Crazy.

They have 10 starters coming back this year on defense, which you'd expect given what I said above. Doesn't always mean great things...if the 10 kids suck, they'll still suck. But I'd be willing to bet some cash that their defense is a lot better. It was awful last year and that dude just doesn't produce awful defenses.
Agree. Bud wasnt left with enough pieces in 2018 to do anything with. Their defense was absolutely decimated in the offseason. That's not on him.

Nothing but respect & terrific coordinator. Definitely made life miserable for Canes thru the years. Having said that, his defenses haven't been as good the last few years. May have overdone his stay & should have checked out with Beamer.

Va Tech was never in the conversation for anything before he took over as DC. Their rise is directly correlated to Foster taking control of that defense.

It will be interesting to see what happens once he’s gone.

This may be the writing on the wall for Fuente. They're having a hard time recruiting and we know they had a boatload of players transfer out last year. They have 10 commits so far for 2020 and are dead last in the league without a single 4-star recruit. It's going to be hard to get defensive recruits for their 2020 class before the early signing period. In February, they'll be rummaging thru the left overs looking for bodies. With another bad year Fuente may be out.

I think Foster sees their ship sinking further and has had enough. IMO, he's making it known he's retiring to clear the way for the next regime when Fuente is fired.

I wonder if a family member is providing the piece of liver for his transplant or if it was just a Chokie superfan? Thoughts and prayers. May you soon be back to crushing a fifth of Old Crow before noon, Bud!

**** I respect the man, he coached his *** for years up in Blacksburg, VA. I am hoping his team plays their *** off for the man, an that we drop half a hundred on them for old times sake this year

Go Canes

He coached a helluva a game an pulled the game out for them

I know of a former Houston and Miami DC that needs a job
Funny, I was just talking with a buddy about doritos this morning. It is genuinely hard to believe the below pics are real. Smh

End of an era. Had #1 defenses with classes in the 20-30th range.

Nothing but respect for him. Guy is a legend. I hope he enjoys retirement.

Agreed. The guy was one of the best to ever lace 'em up as a DC in college football. Its becoming clear that his time has come but Ive got nothing but respect for Bud Foster. He got the most out of some really mediocre talent and his defenses were well prepared and always came to play.
