I don't understand what the **** you're talking about. Wilt Chamberlain has nothing to do with whether or not the NBA is a bad product, the Wizards are a bad defensive team, and etc. Either stick to the argument, or don't respond to me. I'm not trying to be rude. You question why Wilt had an asterisk next to his 100 point game because of some official scorer deficiencies???
The traveling is insane, imagine Jordan doing that dude would average 100pts with the stuff they allow now. And the flopping I never seen MJ flop and I hated that dude. When we played in the streets no one flopped and if you got fouled and called it a whole fight started.Have you been watching the nba over the last 10 years? The whole thing has been a joke.
It’s become beyond unbearable for me to watch because of every other play is a foul. They’ve outlawed playing defense and the nba has set every rule towards this exact result
Chamberlain needed 25 points with eight minutes remaining to reach 100, a rate equivalent to 150 points in a full game. He scored his 79th point with 7:51 left, breaking his own record and sending the crowd into a frenzy. The 4,124 spectators screamed, "Give it to Wilt! Give it to Wilt!" After he reached 80, the crowd yelled for 100. Chamberlain thought, "Man, these people are tough. I'm tired. I've got 80 points and no one has ever scored 80." The Warriors continued giving Chamberlain the ball.
By halftime, the Warriors had lost some of their edge, but still led 79–68. Chamberlain's point total stood at 41. The Warriors felt little excitement, as he had scored 60 or more points on 15 previous occasions. "I often came into the locker room with 30 or 35 points, therefore, 41 points was not a big deal", Chamberlain later explained. During halftime, the Warriors' Guy Rodgers said, "Let's get the ball to Dip. Let's see how many he can get." Wilt had 69 points after three quarters.
Warrior Al Attles later explained, "We wanted that Wilt got the record, because we all liked him." Attles himself led by example, passing up on an easy layup so that Chamberlain could score points 88 and 89, five minutes before the end.
With six minutes remaining, the Knicks began intentionally fouling any Warrior except Chamberlain, keeping the ball out of the center's hands. New York also began moving the ball slowly and using as much of the shot clock as possible to leave fewer opportunities for him to score.
Effectively, they played the opposite of what a normal club would do if they faced a deficit, willingly giving up many easy points instead of making attempts to rally back. Meschery said the Warriors lobbed the ball in from the sideline across the floor directly to Chamberlain, who would use his size and strength to get the ball. Chamberlain was the only Warrior to make a field goal in almost four minutes before Meschery made a jump shot at 4:15. Philadelphia began quickly fouling New York with around four minutes left, reciprocating the intentional foul strategy
The Warriors and Knicks combined for a record 316 points. Philadelphia fell short of the Boston Celtics' then-record of 173 points in a game. It was not uncommon for late-season NBA games to feature little defense. Celtics guard Bob Cousy said that the level of play in the NBA decreased as the season progressed, and "defenses are out of gas" by the end of the season.
Johnny Kerr of the Syracuse Nationals marveled, "How about this: He's the world's worst free-throw shooter and he's 28 out of 32!" Cousy figured the game must have gone out of control, just as when Cousy had 29 assists when the Celtics scored 173 points against Minneapolis. Boston coach Red Auerbach laughed, "He's playing against nobody." Bill Russell smiled and said, "The Big Fella finally did it.
Wizards should be dropped down into the WNBA for allowing that.
Kobe is the most overrated player in history.People are hating because he didn't honor Kobe and tie it. Wonder if Kobe was here if he'd have wanted him to pass the 81 points?
Kobe is the most overrated player in history.
In fairness to "defense"...
Bam had 36 points from the free-throw line, and 21 points on 7-22 shooting from the 3-point line. For comparison, Wemby went 8-15 from the 3-point line last night. Ain't nobody blocking 3's from Bam or Wemby.
Which means Bam had 26 points "the old-fashioned way".
I'd simply say, when you foul a guy as frequently as they fouled Bam last night, the points will add up.
I wouldn't put this one on "defense" or the lack thereof.
In brief: huge gap between his reputation and his statistical efficiency compared to other all-time greats. The "mamba mentality" gave him more cultural credit than his actual game deserved. But this is just my opinion.I don't care either way but interested in hearing the argument
Russell appreciated the feat. Great respect between the 2 giants of the game.Quite literally every critique of this amazing accomplishment was made when Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points. Wilt, like Bam, got a ton of praise too but he even had Red Auerbach hating on him.
If they stopped doing the ridiculously of tackling him off ball, a ton of those free throws would’ve been shot attempts.
Wilt also (prior to 100) delineated between his 78 points game which happened in triple OT versus his 73 point game which happened in a normal game; he considered the latter his true career high.
Where I grew up it was called "no blood, no foul".The traveling is insane, imagine Jordan doing that dude would average 100pts with the stuff they allow now. And the flopping I never seen MJ flop and I hated that dude. When we played in the streets no one flopped and if you got fouled and called it a whole fight started.
I just stopped watching it.
Don’t care what the rule book says.. that **** is always up to interpretation based on the commissioner.Have you read the rules of basketball, the ones that have been around for 100 years or more?
These are not new rules, this is just "enforcement of the rules". Under the rules of basketball, what the Detroit Pistons did in the 1980s was a violation of the rules.
I seen a dude get hit with a pipe on his skull like at 7 years old bruh because of basketball. He never flopped he was leaking and fought backWhere I grew up it was called "no blood, no foul".
Its not who did it, or who he passed. It’s who he plays for. People hate Miami is what it is.The NBA I do not watch it’s kind of *** imo, but that’s just me. But typical now of modern day fans to get mad at someone for scoring more points than someone they like. Weird *** behavior
