OT: App State vs. Louisiana

I’ve been a Napier fan.
He was Saban’s hit man regarding recruits. Go look at his resume right here:

Furthermore, when he took over ULL, they had some violations that hit them prior to. Dude has won the division or conference every yr he’s been there. Pretty impressive.

But I highly doubt he comes here. It feels like he wants a SEC job & my thought would probably be LSU once Orgeron is canned.
Probably but if lsu goes for Aranda it might give us a chance. Then again with the clown show we have running this place he would be probably pass on us regardless

Can we just take a moment and recap Alabama 2015 coaching staff under Saban?

- Kiffin
- Cristobal
- Napier
- Kirby
- Lupoi
- Mel Tucker

Napier really seems to be that guy. He got 3 guys drafted in 2020 for the Cajuns. That's the most players drafted ever for them in a single year. The guy can develop and coach em up clearly.

Is Napier any more impressive right now than Fuente or even Norvell were at freakin' Memphis? Dude has one win over a ranked team (and they were barely ranked) his entire time in Bumblefuk, Louzeeanna.

Hard pass. If we're playing this up-and-comer Sun Belt coach/Sabag magic dust game when hiring the next guy then we deserve to waste another 5 years because we'll probably just end up with the next Derek Dooley.

Napier + 2 P3 Conference Championships + 1 NY6 Bowl Game Win = Cristobal
The Office Lol GIF

The kid did a gymnastics flip in the end zone .... any coach would have chewed his *** out. You're reaching
Reaching? How? I’m talking about Napier getting on a kid for doing something dumb in a game that they’re winning. I didn’t even mention Manny, but It’s good to see a coach doing that. I like that in a coach.

He and Chadwell are essentially Fuente and Norvell of 2021. Not saying that's how his next stop ends up but he's the hot G5 name that's gonna go to an above average P5 job.

The difference in Napier in my eyes is 2 things: 1) He's worked 5 years in the Saban school of becoming a head coach. 2) He's faced actual adversity in his coaching career - being fired from Clemson. Fuente and Norvell have only went up and have never had a set-back in their career.

Whether that makes him any different.. who knows. The results of their G5 job look extremely similar. He's also regarded as a better recruiter than those 2 were. More of a sociable guy. But he was also at Clemson and Alabama.

Napier has the chance to be Dabo with more experience. Like Dabo, he needs big time coordinators on both sides. But, I think he could be a closer in recruiting wherever he goes.

Dabo first big move at Clemson was to fire Napier as the OC, and bring in Chad Morris. He wasn't ready back then to be a big time OC.

And Chad Morris benefited greatly from Napier's QB signee right before he left - Tahj Boyd.

But I think Morris also gets credit for bringing in Deshaun Watson. But Boyd propelled it all to what it is now.

The reality is that every potential hire has hair on them, and it seems that the better the coach, the thicker the hair is, Gruden, Urban, Freeze, etc.

Thats why you need someone with football experience to be making the choice.

Other than coaching at ULL he has no ties in Lou. High school in Ga and played college in SC

Never, ever hire a CFB head coach at a P5 program, that has been fired as coordinators during their come up.

I would encourage the board to research the staff a HC puts together.

That’s why I hate Manny

Looking at Mario, Kiffin and Napier they all have put together strong coaching staffs.

I’m not saying Napier’s staff is filled with household names, but looking at the resumes and bios it doesn’t surprise me one bit that ULL is having a string run under Napier

They weren’t coordinators…they were young HCs. I meant to write as coordinators
Fair enough. I'd probably give Napier a pass because he had only been coaching 6 years and was 29 years old with no QB at Clemson. His Alabama experience also came after that. It's like holy water.. washes away all of your prior mistakes.
