OT: Anyone get denied unemployment in Florida?

People must realize that whatever form of government they may be operating under is NOT purely one thing or another !00%.

China has a limited amount of Capitalism now.......but it's still Communist government

We have a limited amount of Socialism......but we're still a Capitalistic Government and Society

Why that fact upsets some is beyond belief

It's NOT ALL or none. It is what it is.

Governments across the world did the same thing. Closed shop. Citizens paying into a system and then receiving THEIR tax dollars back during a pandemic isn’t socialism. That’s just dumb rationale. Americans are so lost.

The financial market tanked before the pandemic shutdown and the government was already working on a financial bailout. The US economy was going to tank regardless. It was being propped up by cosmetic pillars and the pandemic simply forced its hand.

I’m in Europe right now and the Germans aren’t having the same unemployment crisis or healthcare issues. They’re not on TV talking about increased suicide rates. Because their healthcare system didn’t fail them and their unemployment rates didn’t shoot up plus 7%. Seems as though there are quite a few socioeconomic systems working during this pandemic.

Our system isn’t working. We need to get our heads out of our asses. Unbridled Capitalism is dumb. We have billion dollar companies that barely pay in looking for significant tax dollars. I love me some capitalism. In fact my company revenue will sky rocket during this time. But, we need to fix a ton of phuckery with our approach to the game and take care of the citizens or it’s going to all tank even more. Defaults are coming and it’s going to get even uglier with our current approach.

Idk what applies for how you get unemployment, I’m in college working part time at hooters and got temporary furloughed at the start of the month making around 160 dollars a paycheck. I just got approved for unemployment yesterday and am now practically making 8 times more a month, idk how they decide who gets it and who doesn’t 🤷🏻‍♂️

You do know that social security is YOUR money that you have put in, that you are getting back in the end. If it still exists when you need it....

IF that's wholly true I or anyone should only be able to get out of it what I put into it huh?

BUT That is not the case..

Very very often especially if you live long enough ...you'll get a lot more $ out than you ever put in

This doesn't happen under any system, bruh. As long as there is money, there will be inequality.

This notion that socialism = free is a misunderstanding of what socialism is. We have for decades had socialism in America (you didn't think your local police department or those highways were funded by Amazon or Berkshire-Hathaway, did you)?

Also, and this is most important, a socialist structure does not mean you cannot gain wealth. There are plenty of billionaires in socialist countries. For every "Venezuela is a failed state that shows socialism that doesn't work" there's a Haiti, Sudan, or Afghanistan that shows pure capitalism is no better. There's no such thing as a perfect system.

Anyway, my only response to the OP is: You actually got through to the Florida Unemployement Office?!?! Respect.

i have never seen an example of a billionaire or multimillionaire in a socialist country that wasn’t Associated with the government in charge.

Socialism is the ideology, Communism is the reality.

Democracy provides the illusion of an elected buffer. After decades of lobbying and corruption that buffer doesnt work for the people anymore. They work for the PACs and Lobbyist. Who are funded by the wealthy. Different paths....same ending.

Never applied for it, so couldn't tell you.

Truckers have been given the franchise tag, so I've been working throughout.

I have never been denied unemployment in Florida. Just the opposite, I have been denied employment in Florida many times.
Good one. Ah, but the sunshine still hit your face on the way out the door. FL is for pleasure not work -- sadly true.

Self employed people are getting denied left and right. PUA only works for some and that requires jumping thru hoops. Govt is gonna have to open America soon. Over 52 million Americans are self employed.
I agree entirely that we need to reopen asap. I read the other day that isolation, hand washing and social distancing was prescribe in the 1919 flu also. If that is true it clearly did not work well and we have been sold a bill of goods by medical, scientific and media. Of course that was before Federal Income Tax and pre-New Deal so the Federal role in life was nothing like today.

Not an area of expertise for me but I believe in FL unemployment is an insurance program with premiums paid by employer as some sort of payroll tax. Self-employed or contractors getting 1099 are not the normal candidate. Other states might differ but the federal $600 a week is supposed to include self employed and independent contractors.

Two years ago was the first time in my long life I was qualified for unemployment compensation in our heavenly state. I found the process and site a pain in the rear but the workers there pleasant and helpful. The maximum weekly benefit was more like 2 hours pay than a week but that is that sunshine tax thing.

I never said that the United States was operating with a true free-market economy - because it's not.
Then why would you contrast our economy to the others. We pick the winners and it's always the asset class, stock holders, or people who make investments. When you have the FED buying junk bonds to prop up the market and not let companies with bad management and policies fail its a rigged economy. It has been for awhile.

I find it funny when all the people on the right, especially people who make their money from wall street decry socialism or giving benefits to the poor or less fortunate. They're the biggest welfare queens out there.

Ding ding ding. Correct, Mr. Madison. Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership as a means of production and profit.

Based on that definition, Haiti, Sudan, and Afghanistan -- all free market economies with little to no central economic planning are capitalist. They are certainly closer on that spectrum than socialist of communist.
True. Capitalism is economic system. Socialism by its very definition merges everything into the government in some or all ways. It requires biggr and bigger government and it most famous historic examples have not ended well: Fascists Italy, **** Germany, Communist USSR, and still undetermined Communist China, North Korea, Viet Nam, Cuba and its spin offs. The biggest gift socialist nations have given us it a favorite of the Zero Population growth people, 100's of millions of deaths,

Socialized capitalism is a horror show also and comes naturally to big governments. Limited government is the safest form and government for freedom's sake and Henry Ford capitalism is great economic system to people's economic well being. Ford had habit of ****ing off his competitors by giving repeated pay raises to workers without them even asking. He said,"How can these people afford to buy my cars if I don't pay them enough!" Strange action for a capitalist. He believed in cutting cost and improving efficiency everywhere except workers pay. There, he strangely thought it best to pay the HIGHEST possible wage -- they where consumers.

We live in a JP Morgan capitalism world being carried out on a global scale now. Old JP believed the opposite: work them until death for as little as possible. One man was great and the other a smuck beyond belief. you decide.
