OT: 1991 Was a Good Canes Year

Fun season...
Gino to Copeland 99 yard TD
K. Williams 91 yd punt return TD vs Penn St
Wide Right
Sebastian sneaking in the fire extinguisher
 
Main thing I remmeber about that season was 22-0.... Should of been worse
 
Oh yes the 90 and 91 teams were kick *** great. The 90 roster was killer, Cotton Bowl 46-3 slaughter of Texas and thrill Hill's six-shooter expose'... And Gino in 91, one of the nicest dudes ever, throwing to Lamar, Copeland, Williams, Spencer... plus Barrow, Armstead, Smith LB's with an attitude.
It's always been "great to be a Miami Hurricane!"

'91 is the first season I remember really watching every game from start to finish.
Before that it was mostly just highlights, big games and bowl games.

Fun times.
 
I'll always have a soft spot for the 91 team. I was 12 and that's about the age where I started to really understand the nuances of football. Yeah, I watched some of those 80's games when I was a kid with my dad and I understood the basic rules of football but it wasn't until the 90's that I really started picking up on everything. Like I knew Dennis Erickson ran a 1 back offense which was not the norm for the time. One of the things that drew me to Miami football as a kid was how much they threw the ball. Do you want to watch "three yards and a cloud of dust" wishbone boring offense or watch Gino Torretta airing it out to Horace Copeland, Lamar Thomas, Kevin Williams and Coleman Bell? It was a no brainer.

Hey Cane you being almost as old as me and around the program for awhile... do you know what ever became of Yama Yama? Did he ultimately fry his liver or is he bionic.

91 team had the best college defense I ever saw. Shame they didn't get to play Washington at the end......I know the UW defense was supposed to be one of the greatest ever too, but I have a feeling that Miami team would have had a significant team speed advantage on them that Dennis would have found a way to exploit. Toretta would have been on his *** a lot, but there also would have been some big plays to Copeland and Thomas. More than any other QB we've had, Gino could take hits all game long and still deliver accurate strikes downfield. Oh well, it is still an undefeated season and a national title, so I will take it.

Good Question....not sure....some other posters probably know....I became a UM fan in 76....Some other posters here (Old Grassy Guys) Matador....Franchise...etc would most likely know....

91 statistically is UMs best Defense ever....
But some others...87...89...and especially 1981 were no joke....That 1981 team should've played for the NC....if not for BS calls against Texas and Ole Miss....

CFB was, once again, righted that year.
That game up at BC that year was the 7th anniversary (to the day) of the Hail Flukie pass.
They handed out little booklets that had screen shots so when you thumb-fanned it, it was a little video clip of the play.
The game came down to....you guessed it...a Hail Mary attempt by BC.
The crowd started some goofy Flutie chant.
Different result this time..
Canes win what would be there last close game that year.

That one back offense was stupidity against Bama....They had two 1st team AA DLmen in Curry and Copeland....And sometimes the one back (Conley) all 120lbs of him would split out...leaving Torretta vulnerable....In my opinion...DE was outcoached by Stallings...

Yea I started following the canes in 74, but it wasn't until I got season tickets in 82 that I would see Yama Yama always leading cheers on the sidelines. On the alumni flight to New Orleans/Sugar Bowl in 86 I got to see his love for the Canes and the bottle... a juiced up cheerleader.
