OSU Defense

They really did not play anyone great during the regular season so it is difficult to tell from highlights. The one team that did give them trouble in the first half was Penn State. Their Backs looked pretty good on toss plays, some jet sweeps, end arounds, shovel passes. I think we can emulate some of the things they did with our backs and Malachi and Lofton. Hopefully for 4 quarters.

Against Indiana they looked pretty stout. But still gave up some running plays in chunks. I really do think we have a chance to wear them down if we keep with the run and not stray away from it with gimmicks.
8.2 points per game, dude. Don’t care who they played. The defense is elite.

It may be elite statistically but I want to see it against a team with a great OL and depth at the skills.
They really did not see that much talent in any of the games they won.
They are going to be all over #10. No way in **** they let him do his thing....
#0, #7 and #9 have to make plays when they get the opportunity.
I want to see some screen passes to the backs...
Get #22 touches running and catching...

Hard to really tell with the lack of competition they’ve played this year. Literally one of the worst schedules in power 4 by a wide margin.
Indiana scores pts and giving up 8 pts a game against even a ****** p4 schedule is no fluke. Downs is a know quantity and Arvell Reese explodes off the screen as NFL ready. They have veteran players in the back end who started as part of their title run last season. The front 4 is the weakest part of their defense in that it isnt littered with difference making playmakers just guys who do their job. But it is still talent rich and formidable.

Schedule not withstanding, on paper
and on the stat sheet its the best defense in the country. Thay being said, I believe we have the best D and we get a chance to prove it on 12/31.

It's actually a combo of 1985 Chicago Bears, the 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers (Steel Curtain), and the 2000 Baltimore Ravens but much better.

They are good. Downs is a constant threat. Reese is a likely top 5 pick and can do anything asked. I do think their corners are good not great in coverage. They can be had there even if that means contested catches, which Indiana did.

I think this might be a game to get Josh Moore some isolation and let Beck throw some back shoulders. That combination can win there. I would also decoy some with Toney and move Lofton around and run him into areas that might get vacated with attention to Toney. Need to force Reese/Styles to be disciplined.

This is a much better defense than A&M with better size. They don’t need to blitz like them either.
The thing is Cribby, I don’t think they can get pressure on us with just their front four. So even though they don’t want to blitz, I think they’re gonna have to commit to that if they want a shot at putting pressure on Beck.

They don’t need to get quick pressure when there’ll be confusion in the backend. That extra second or two can lead to a sack or even worse a turnover. Which is why I keep saying don’t beat ourselves.

Like its been said this UM offense needs to control the clock and attack this secondary, UM wide outs have to win their 1 v 1 and beck must know what coverages the secondary is in to win those 1 v 1 match ups or hopefully a surprise screen rb play lol.

Im not sure we will be able to gash them at will with the running game, + no wind ,or weather to deal with. This is a brock berlin esque UF type of game we need from beck. This is why UM ,cristobal, and dawson choose beck.
