Orlando has completley turned on us

I grew up in central Florida, Cocoa Beach, and Orlando has never been a Cane town as long as I can remember. Always been Gator country.

Agree. I have lived in Daytona Beach in excess of 50 years and Orlando has never been a 'Canes town and basically Gator and now, understandably, UCF.

Ive been in central florida all my life almost...orlando's NEVER been a cane town. Even in our glory days, at best 30-35%...and that with the band wagon fans. By '05-06...we were 15% maybe..at best... As all the wagoneers had begun finding teams to root for, which weren't ****ting the bed!

It is what it is! If we could find a way to win..we could have a strong base again,.. But till then, we're has beens!!!

Well it is understandable, UCF is in downtown Orlando, and they win, win a lot. They may also be 5 times our size

UCF is not in downtown. They just opened an art school downtown but the main campus is way out east in what used to be the country. It'd be like UM being in the redlands

I can remember 15 years ago I would come to Orlando for business and it would probably be 40% Canes, 20% Seminoles, Gators and UCF. Im talking radio, merchandise etc. Orlando is now a UCF town in the way Gainesville and Tallahasse are. Radio, hotels, walmarts, residents...all UCF all the time. Maybe a little off topic but it's interesting how things have changed and how it will affect us

I duno man. I agree that Orlando is now all UCF.. which it should be now that it has its own team. But it used to be gator country.. not UM. even now its like 75% UCF - 25% gator

Yeah business. Why do you think South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky and even UGA all are against their instate rivals joining their conference.

Because they are PVSSIES. The only one of those 4 that isn't scared of an in-state rival is UGa.

Orlando has never been anything but Gators. I had many Miami friends relocate to Orlando. My sister lives in Orlando. When they ask me about it I scoff at them and say there is no chance I'm ever living somewhere that is pro-Gators.

Overall it is a Gator state. That has been true throughout my life. During stretches when Florida State is dominant in football then you'll see their merchandise approach Gator level, but it is temporary and always reverts to Gator dominance, basically no matter how they are faring.

I'll be in Orlando for a golf tournament beginning tomorrow. I'll see Gator stuff everywhere out there. Old people sitting greenside in Gator lawn chairs. Gator shirts and hats in the shuttle bus. Volunteers at the event wearing Gator clothing. Never varies.

But if they chirp something when I'm wearing Canes gear I'll give them the Orange Blue and Mostly Yellow line, while laughing at them for gallantly ending the series in 1987. It always amazed me they are somehow shocked by that. Florida fans think of themselves as brave simply via SEC entry

40% Canes .. in Orlando??? Never. UF primary, FSU secondary, then .. back in those days South Florida and Miami.

I lived in Orlando from 2011-2015 and it was one of the worst places I’ve ever lived. It’s much more of a large town than a small city, it’s full of old people and is racist af. I grew up in the Tampa Bay Area and there is really a night & day difference culturally.

I always thought Florida should be divided into 2 states - North Florida & South Florida; with the dividing line a little north of Tampa very similar to what Howard recognized in his design to make UM great. North Florida is really more of a GA/AL vibe (red clay and hickish) but South Florida is much more diverse in every way. We should treat North Florida like any other state.

::: Schnellenberger revolutionized recruiting South Florida high school talent by building a metaphorical "fence around South Florida" and recruiting only the "State of Miami." :::

We win a natty and you will get everyone wearing our gear again. Everywhere I went I saw at least one person or a car reppin the canes back in the early 90’s. I was out in Cali and in Texas around that time and visited family in New York a bit. I always saw canes gear.
Last time I was in Cali 2 years ago I didn’t see any bama Clemson or UGA sht.
I would love to get the numbers but surprisingly I see quite a bit of UCLA sht every time I travel. I don’t know if it’s the colors or the city but their sht sells everywhere.

Football is business. Like it or not.

Six wins is poor business. And it hasn't been good for almost two decades.

It's not that Orlando turned around and is abandoning UM - UM has abandoned football.

No it's not....Orlando without a doubt is mostly Gators....UFs 2 biggest Boosters have offices within a mile from my home (Lawyers John Morgan and Stumpy Harris)....

I live in Orlando don’t believe that bull**** it’s always been gator and Seminole country UCF is third and then Miami is 4th

Look, all these people arguing that Central Florida is "Gaytor Country" are just missing the point.

I moved to Orlando in the early 1970s. I grew up rooting for UF, F$U, and UM until I enrolled at UM, and have hated UF and F$U ever since.

Merchandise, sports radio, and other outward displays of fandom didn't become a big thing until the 1980s. And, yes, in other areas of the state (Orlando, Tampa, SW FL) you could usually find Florida Big 3 merch. Now, the team that gets squeezed out by UCF in Orlando and USF in Tampa is Miami. You can ALWAYS find Gaytor merch, and you can usually find F$U merch (sparse the last couple of years).

We have to deal with reality and math. The only way that any store (outside of the big sporting goods chains) are going to carry UM merch is if we start winning the ACC and making the Final Four (football or hoops). Sports radio outside of SoFla will talk about us when we win. But the massive size of UCF and USF, and the massive size of their alumni bases, will continue to put UM (at least in Central Florida) in fifth place in the discussion. Unless we win big.

That's why we should put UCF and USF in the ACC. Because the best way to be in the mix, and the best way to appeal to fans outside of SoFla, is to be a relevant part of the media coverage year-round. Rivalries. Games that matter. Too many pvssy Miami fans get scared of "Miami elevating UCF and USF by allowing them into the ACC", and they ignore how Miami will always have the edge over UCF and USF, historically and by being in a better talent hotbed.
This is a good take. UCF wins, doesn't matter what conference they're in. They have a sizeable alumni base (I am one of them), the city is growing with the school and it's good exposure for both brands (city and school). One last note for people who hate on their program: they also recruit SFL better than Miami does in terms of low-star recruits with higher ceilings and in more recent years have been better developers of that low end talent. They also have a MUCH MUCH MUCH better QB room than we do, not even a discussion.
