I just don’t think 2 loss teams should get in personally. Vilma was on CFB live recently and made this same point. The hardest part is winning the game. One loss can be forgiven, but two is just too much. Have to rebound at some point.
Same goes for 1-loss teams who were embarrassed in their loss (Georgia). No excuse for just not showing up. Ohio State qualifies for both the 2loss and being embarrassed.
To me it doesn't matter. You pay your debt for losing by dropping in the polls. If you right the ship while teams ahead of you go down, it's completely unfair for a group of people to eliminate a team without any mathematical formula to justify it.
Alabama happened to be in a conference where one loss to one certain team eliminates them from their conference championship. It certainly won't hurt them, and they get an extra week to rest while Auburn and UGA have to suit up again. Under a ranking system comprised of non-biased formulas, Alabama has to blame themselves for losing when they lost. If the committee continues to lead with natural human bias, it's a trend down a slippery slope where the integrity of the playoffs will never exist.
As a general rule of thumb, losses should be crucial and important, but if OSU beats Wisconsin, there is nothing on Alabama's resume that gives them the edge. You have two 2-loss teams with potential to finish in the top 4, and if the committee feesl a 2 loss conference champ doesn't deserve a shot, sit back and watch the chaos ensue. Football is a game that emphasizes the importance of how you finish, not necessarily how you start. Whether it be in games, or throughout the long stretch of the season.
When you have the human element involved in the ranking process, you essentially set a precedent each and every time you rank a team. A precedent that is unlikely to be revisited because of the amount of variables involved in each season. With the BCS, you have a consistent formula that doesn't discredit or pander to any particular team that the numbers represent.
