Opt Outs in the ACC

I have to believe that INDIVIDUAL underclassmen bowl game opt-out/opt-in decisions are a kind of proxy for early NFL draft entry, and vice versa.

I'm not saying that an underclassman who plays in a bowl game will NOT go to the NFL early, just that if a decision HAS been reached to enter the NFL draft, there is zero reason to play in a non-Final-Four bowl game. A bunch of schools have opted out, several games have been cancelled, there are no other "all-star game" ramifications, etc.

So if an underclassman DOES play, and unless he plays the bowl game of a lifetime, I think it would be a safe bet to project those who play as ones who are "coming back for 2021".

I've said this for a long time.

Need to go to an 8-game playoff. Then, maybe someday, a Sweet 16. Bowl games will die soon enough.
Said this yesterday, the bowl format is outdated and needs to die. There is literally no benefit for a kid who's going to enter the draft unless they're projected as a late-round pick at best and think showing out in the Depends Bowl will improve their draft stock. Otherwise the risk of getting injured in a meaningless bowl far outweighs any potential benefit.

16 is the magic number IMO. P5 conference champs and G5 conference champs get automatic bids so long as they meet some predetermined ranking criteria, just to prevent a 7-win Sun Belt champ from getting in over a 10-win P5 team who didn't win their conference.

15 games and each of them is an elimination game. They would mean something, people would watch and it would be a freakin cash-cow. You may still have some opt-outs, but when a chance to win a natty is on the line I think most kids play.

****. Dudes opting out of big name bowls too I see. Sheesh
There is no big game bowls anymore bro unless it’s the CFP. That’s college football now, unlike the old days with conference aligned bowls and voting for the national champion which brought in conference pride even if you weren’t playing for the national championship. I know we all used to bltch about not having a playoff back then but I actually kind of miss those days. Back Then bowls meant more and the way CFB declared a national champion made it unique in all of sports.

All our starters should opt out. Play the young ones and let them get the experience. This game is pointless, and as this year has shown, so is buying in to the college football current system.

College football is minor league NFL. Very little passion outside of personal gain.
